Hi everyone,

I know it’s coming up to firework night, but people in my area have already started to let them off. I don’t mind, but I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas to help calm the piggies? They are fine at the moment, but throughout the coming weeks there will be more and I want them to feel calm and relaxed x

Keeping a tv on for some background noise. Sometimes though, we are more worried by the thought of them being worried than they actually are so you will just have to observe them and see how they actually react to it.
I brought my boys indoors for bonfire night last year and they weren’t bothered by the fireworks at all. On New Year’s Eve I didn’t bring them in but instead watched them and they still weren’t bothered even though being outside it was a bit louder.

Mine are indoors anyway so I guess that helps a bit. Overall they are really good when it comes to noises inside the house, but hopefully it should be fine

At this time of year I stock up on forage mixes, there's nothing like food to distract a guinea pig 😅 I pull the curtains and either put a radio on or give them my phone to listen to music, there's a guinea pig calming video on YouTube that my lot seem to like. Coupled with a good few handfuls of forage scattered through their hay that tends to keep them amused until it quiets down. Nice snug, dark places to hide will also help :)

Thank you! They are quite good with noises, but as Bert is more skittish I don't know how he will react. He will probably be fine, but it is just nice to know what others do

Some firework displays are this weekend but today is also Diwali so there will be lots of fireworks tonight. Luckily neither the puppy nor the piggies seem particularly fussed

Thankfully they are fine so must not really bother them

Ours are pretty nervous and this evening we found the both scared frozen in their house (They never normally share). We couldn't work out what had spooked them until we figured it must be fireworks as normally a couple of treats is all it takes for them to recover. Will be playing them more music in the next couple of weeks.

I’m sorry to hear that and hopefully they are okay. Luckily mine were okay and the fireworks seemed to stop before I went to bed, but I don’t know what next week will be like

Thanks, they have slowly acclimatised to the sounds of London but it took them a whole so I am a little worried about next week. Fingers crossed for all the nervous piggies out there.

Hopefully it’ll be okay. I don’t live in central London but about an hour away

Was just looking for the same thing, our village just had a bunch and while Bruno didn’t care Ozzy seemed a bit on edge. Food distraction and Netflix in the background seemed to help x

I signed a petition last year of the government's plan to ban fireworks for public use if it got enough votes, looks like that took a back seat on a train

They seem to be okay with it so far. Let’s just hope Tuesday is fine x

I don’t want them to ban them as I don’t mind them, but it becomes annoying when people drag it out or they start doing them in the day. I think all we can do as pet owners is just to take reasonable steps to ensure that our pets are comfortable and happy. Having my guinea pigs inside does help, but they have been fine so far

My guinea pigs hate noise, they make a real complaining noise if the TV is on anything but low or people are talking loudly. At the vet this week one of my girls was complaining very loudly about a dog barking. But.. they don't react to fireworks outside. Fingers crossed yours will be the same.

So far mine have been good and are calm around any household noise

Same. Mine live outside in a shed so I brought them all inside for a week. Some jumped at the noise last night but then again they jump when I sneeze so just instinct. Stuck some music on when next door were setting off fireworks last night and they were all fine 👍

We had fireworks very loud and close last night ( not ours but someone's) and my pigs were out on floor time and couldn't care less, they were stuffing their faces with hay. It's cats and wildlife I feel sorry for. I mean how interesting is a firework? Don't know about others, but they are very boring

Our over the road neighbours were letting fireworks off last night, they were very loud ones, not the normal shop bought ones and exploding right over our house. The piggies looked up a few times but carried on with what they were doing, the humans jumped at every loud bang, we didn't like it at all! We watched Brassed Off as the music helped and the title seemed apt, when that finished we watched a very old version (B&W) of Titanic just to keep some noise in the room. They were going for over 3 hours on and off instead of just getting on with it in half an hour like normal people. I think the piggies were okay because we had the TV on quite loud, good job we hadn't gone out though, I think they would have been scared if the house was quiet.
Fireworks are quite pretty for a distance for a little while but I agree boring for very long. I watched a few out the back bedroom window while I ate my dinner. We live on a hill and have panoramic views so I could see the best of everyone's firework displays for free. Not something I'd ever spend money on.

I personally don't go out and buy them purely because they are so expensive and I would rather spend my money on other things, but growing up my parents sometimes bought them and would do something small and that was it. It was never dragged out and we just did it on the 5th and that was it. Whenever we go out though we always leave the radio on so there is some noise for them and the birds

My cat never use to like them and we always had to keep her in overnight :(
