Hi, I adopted my two, 2 year old bonded boars from a guinea pig rescue two weeks ago today. I have just looked them over and weighed them etc and noticed they both have wounds on their backs, suspected bite marks. Domino's is worse and i intend to take him to the vets tomorrow, but he is lively eating and drinking and seems fine. Cookie's wound is a lot smaller, he too has been eating and drinking but is a little more subdued. I have separated them but although they are right next to each other and can see and communicate Domino is visibly and vocally not happy about this - should i put them together? I have observed any fighting although when in there run they do chatter their teeth at eachother. Is there any first aid treatment i.e. cleaning the wound that i can do today before i take them to the vets tomorrow?
Any advice welcome

Best to wash it with a saline solution until you can get to the vets. If it is from fighting then you've done right by separating them for the time being.

Also watch them to see if they're scratching a lot, it is also possible that this could be caused by something other than fighting. You'll find out when you get them to the vets.

ok thank you. I have a human saline eye wash- am i able to use that? I recall many years ago using salt water to clean a cut on my dog - can i do the same with piggies?
They dont seem to of been over scratching. thanks again
