OMG
I was so nervous, terrified of hurting him.
Nibbles nails were getting long, they were also very sharp. I have the scratches to prove it. ;D
Connor wrapped him in a towel and we fished out a paw at a time.
Much wriggling and sweaty palms later. Job done. O0
I am chuffed, convinced myself I'd have to get someone else to do it.
Phewwwwww. :D

Hey, well done you. :)
It's scary! Fluffkin yells at me constantly when I do hers but Boogie is easily distracted with a lump of cucumber! I just give her a big chunk and sit her on my lap and pick up each paw while she's eating. Cute.

Well Done O0
Youll soon get used to it and ive been doing it since i got my second lot of piggys and i still am terrified of hurting them ::)

Done Harry too now. Easier, he is more placid.
Harry has the dark nails too. :)
I was definately terrified. Glad I had a go. :)

O0 O0 O0 Well done I was a nervous wreck when I first did it but I am so glad I did it and now I do all of them on a regular basis and they are getting used to it :)

You just have to be brave and firm with it...

You are lucky that your dark nailed one is the placid one. With mine it is the other way around :o

I do my 3 myself to but sometimes they sort of sqeel at me making me thik i'm hurting them even when i make sure i dn't cut ay where near the quick bit ::)

Yes Clare, I just used a pair of spare clippers I had in. They worked fine. O0
I've seen a few times on the site, people recommending filing their nails if they are sharp.
Maybe that would work for you.
Anne. :)

Oh good idea, cos his little nails are not really long... he is only young so they are like needles, he really tame with me ao perhaps i could just file them gently... thanks x

I was so proud the first time I did it.

I still had to get Roger to do Rocky's for some time as I found him impossible, but he is much better now.

However, one of Rocky's fingernails is very curved - what does this mean?

Most of my piggies are fine and let me do it but Gizmo will refuse to sit still. I have tried everything and he just woon't stay put, but luckily he trusts me a bit more and after a bit of a struggle he finally lets me cut them bless him. All my piggies except dougal have dark nails ::)

I do all mine regularly. Never had any accidents, but I'm still terrified of hurting them! Out of curiosity, what happens if you do cut down too far? I imagine the bleeding would never stop!

One of my piggies is so well behaved and just sits there quietly while I cut her nails - the other one squeals and squeals until I stop! :)

I'm not sure - just they way it is i guess. Merlin has one curved nail that he wont let me touch. The others (all black) are fine to be cut but this one he hates me touching. I worry coz his little feet look all splayed out like flowers, even though he has regular nail trims

I think they do bleed quite a bit, I've seen it recommended on here, that you keep a styptic pencil in your piggie first aid kit. :)
I'm going to get one in case.
Anne. :)

I do all my lot and I absolutely hate it when they pull their feet away just as you have the nail in the clippers and are ready to snip ;D. A couple of mine are real screamers, I only have to hold their feet and they start before I get the clippers anywhere near them!

I am now teaching my 13 year old daughter to nail clip. She is animal mad and took on a rescue piggy over the summer (with our full backing) and I have to say I am very impressed with how she cares for him - she weighs him weekly, checks his coat regularly and gives it a thorough brush through (he's a trimmed alpaca!) several times a week. She has started to trim his coat on a regular basis, but up till now she has been more than happy to hold whilst I nail clip, but she is keen to learn. :)

Aww bless her. :smitten:
Connor is 12, just goes to show not all kids are irresponsible.
They get such a bad rep in the press.
There are many on this site, proving how responsible with pets they can be.
