I have an appt with vet tomorrow for my 1.5 year old cinnamon who gets recurrent soft stools. Previously I posted and someone said that flagyl isn't good for this and not used in the UK? Here in the states that is what the vet will most likely prescribe. Can anyone give me the name of other antibiotics?

I know of Flagyl being used here, but have no experience of it myself. Am sure someone will be along who knows more.

Flagyl is also known as Metronidazole. I was prescribed it for a guinea pig with severe diarrhoea, and by severe I mean he was completely flat, with foul smelling diarrhoea just pouring from him. I had taken him to the vet expecting him to be put to sleep. It worked absolute wonders with him and he made a full recovery.

I agree with Furryfriends, my Petal had 8 weeks of very soft poos & a course of Metronidazole cleared it up :)

Thank you so much! That's what I had thought after some reSearch but was spooked by someone saying its harmful to piggies!!

Hi thought you might be able to help. Vet had to cancel appt but the stools are a bit better I have bene-bac plus do you think I should give this?

I don't think Bene-bac is a product we have in the UK. Is it a small animal probiotic? if so, yes definitely give it.
