Hi all,
New to fleece liners, my pigs are currently on sawdust in a hutch but moving them over to a c&c cage with liners.
I'm going to make these and have been researching the best way to do this. I was thinking fleece on the top, mattress protector on the bottom but thought about a microfibre towel in the middle. Is this a good idea for additional absorbancy or over kill?

hi!
there are different options, I am using the simple paper (from newspapers/supermarkets leaflets). When I remove the fleece in the afternoon and I hang it out to dry, I remove the wet pieces of the paper or they often dry before I cover them again with the fleece.
You can put an old towel or a blanket underneath the absorbant layer, just for having a thicker and softer floor for the piggies.
This is the floor of my "cage" (actually it is an extension of the main cage which is now too little for three piggies). It is practical, comfortable (for piggies' feet) and... free:D

If you have a little room for a large cage, consider the idea of an extension (mainly for the night) which can be removed very easily during the day, when you have guests, when piggies are elsewhere, during their floor time, etc.

About the fleece: there is a type of fleece which is not good for our purpose, it looks like a soft fur... I hope you can understand what I mean. The proper fleece is a plain fabric without any "hair" visible.

I have made various liners.

Fleece zorb, fleece. Lightweight and very absorbent. Expensive to buy zorb but really good.

Fleece, mattress protector, fleece. Lightweight and absorbent. Cheaper than z and needs changing a bit more often. Still really good though.

Fleece washable continence pad, fleece. Heavt, absorbent and ok price.

Prefer the first two.

I often put microfibre mats on top of the liners in places they like to lie down ie under their beds.

You will soon find where they like to wee most. I shake poos out of the liners daily.

Also hay trays (hemp bedding with hay on top) are great cos they love to wee where they eat.

I have used micro fibre for my smaller Iiners - work really well.. I used proper incontinent washable pads for the bigger ones as they stay in for a few more days

How do you wash the fleece? I've just put it the machine with no washing liquid and am air drying it. I have newspaper and puppy liners for the bottom for absorbance. I am new to using fleece. My piggies are new to the family and when the kids were younger we did the traditional hutch outside with sawdust. Want them to be indoor pets.

I use a washing liquid tab. Where the fabric conditioner goes i put some white vinegar in

I also use a horse wash bag and non bio powder. I sometimes add vinegar to the wash.
