Hi,

I have been using fleece blanket for the lining of the cage bottom for three days and noticed the fleece felt moist. I fold a big fleece into half and spread it in the cage. Under it was a thick layer of newspaper. What's wrong with this setting? Is it because of the material of the fleece? I read threads in the past and a person mentioned "polyester fleece" was good. I am not sure what material my fleece is made of. I will check later.

FYI the fleece was washed many times.

Please give me some inputs, thank you!

When I use fleece I put towels and newspaper underneath..could it be that there is not enough underneath to absorb the pee? Maybe you could lift up a corner of the fleece and see if the newspaper is soaked.

Checked the newspaper under the fleece and found out only two spots were wet. :-\

I washed the fleece and cut to the size of the cage. Now the cage has a single layer of fleece and I do not feel the fleece moist any more.

Thanks! ;)

The set up I use is 3 layers of 100% cotton towels, then on top of that is a 100% polyester sheet (like voile), much better than fleece as hay doesnt stick to it, neither does poop! the towels soak the pee down leaving the polyester dry on top i have that for my two boys and just daily sweep off the poop, it last 3-4 days then i change the top polyester and top layer of towels and once a week the lot gets washed, really easy and simple.

Hi, spudnik,

that is a great idea. When I used fleece, vacuuming, washing it, cleaning a washing machine and a dryer after use were somewhat cumbersome to deal with. Currently I am using "Kaytee Total Comfort Critter Friendly Bedding" because I ordered 5 of them several months ago and want to use all them up first. I bought two bath towel and I have an extra voile shower curtain so I will use them later!

Thank you.
