Hi everyone, well I've been away from home for a couple of days. Got back today and my partner told me when he was feeding pigs earlier Willow didn't come out. He opened her bedroom and she was just leaning against doors and didn't flinch when he touched her even though she was turned away from him. Her belly is quite round.

I've brought her inside to keep eye on her. She hasn't eaten or drank since I brought her in 4 and a half hours ago. She also hasn't moved. She can move but is choosing not to. Wel just picked her up to try encourage her to drink and as we moved her round we heard her belly sloshing?! Sounded like a hot water bottle.

Does anyone know what this may be? I'm ringing vets the second they open in the morning

I agree that she needs to see the emergency vet tonight, I really hope she will be ok.

Dito, pad the pet carea to make the jurney as comfatable as possibale and vets asap!

This is a real emergency. It is very important for guinea pigs that their gut keeps moving stuff through or it shuts down, with fatal consequences. It sounds like the root cause may be bloat (hence the round tummy and the sloshing). I really hope she's OK.

Hi everyone, we took her straight to the vets. He said she had an impaction that was causing a blockage in her bowels. He managed to get her to poo a few times! But she still hasn't passed any wee. She has some medicine...I can't remember what it is called without fetching the bottle. Three times a day. And got some recovery feed to give her too. We are syringing it into her mouth little and often. But she doesn't seem to be swallowing...it doesn't come back out but she doesn't seem to make any effort to fight the syringe or anything like that. She perked up a bit after the vets but seems no better since. How long should I be giving her this medicine before I take her back to the vets? I know it may not work immediately. Also, is there anything I can do to help her wee?

How long has it been since she hasn't urinated for?

What did he give for the sloshing noise? It means she has fluid in her tummy, some vets can remove excess water via needle.

If she's not swallowing at all and not urinating, it's not good news can you phone the emergency vet and ask for advice? My practice has a 24 hour emergency number.

We gave her more recovery feed, and she seems to have taken that a bit better. She actually made some chewing movements.

She last urinated between 1am and 5am this morning. She has some emeprid oral solution it's called.

That's better news, just keep her eating little and often. She eating anything on her own?

The urinating is definitely a concern could she have urinated in her cage and you haven't noticed at the time?

Has she got any pain killer as Bloat can be quite painful.

Hi, she hasn't eaten anything on her own. She's got some hay, some pellets, and some veg in her cage. Not touched any of it. She hasn't moved around the cage since this morning. I keep lifting her out to check where she's been lay for any wet but nothing yet. I keep giving her water every hour. No pain killers given to her :-(

She will move if I make her. Would you recommend getting her to walk round as much as I can? He said that the medicine would work and he didn't ask to see her again. Do you think I should take her to my own vets again in the morning if she still hasn't improved? I'm going to be sitting up with her all night again and making sure she gets water. A friend of mine recommended giving her cranberry juice to help her wee. Is that safe to do?

It's extremely painful not being able to urinate vet assistance will be needed. To be honest I would phone and speak to the Emergency vet and get there advice.

I wouldn't make her move around she sounds really poorly.

I keep massaging her belly as the vet did, and she did one poop for me a few mins ago. So stressful and I have terrible morning sickness that lasts all day too! I'm going to keep going with the recovery feed and water. And if she still won't wee or gets worse then back to the vets I think

Sounds like a plan and remember you can phone the emergency vet for advice.

It's good she's poo'ing even if it is just a small one.

Her poops seem to be about the right size and shape as normal, but they seem to have a crack down one side

Good news she is pooing but the lack of wee is a concern. I would expect to see some after the syringe feeding as it is made with water. How much Emeprid are you giving? Would advise taking all veg out and leaving in pellets and hay. Syringe feed her recovery/critical care. Another thing you could do is syringe fee her mushed up pellets, some piggie prefer this taste

Are you sure you haven't missed any wee?

Unsure how far away these vets are from you, they are recommended

Usually I would recommend massage therapy but I would be hesitant to as the vet has said there is a blockage. I think you do need to speak to the vet again. I would try to get as much fluid into her as you can, as I think the crack in the poo could be due to dehydration. Has she been given any pain relief?

No pain relief given to us. I only have dog metacam in the house :-( sounds gross but I keep poking round the cage looking for wet patches. I've just spent an hour encouraging her to walk round to try get things moving. Next medicine is due when we wake at 5am. I've taken the veg out now as it has been in there for 6 hours. Will offer her more in the morning. She certainly looks better than she did last night but I'm doing all I can for her :-(

Could you call the vet and ask them if it is ok to give the Metacam?

I dont know? Wouldent metercam iritate the tummy?
What dose of frusol is she on?
I would phone your vet and ask his oppinion

Hi everyone, thank you for your support and advice.

We lost Willow 4.30am :-(

Thank you everyone. She was my surprise piggy. We adopted her mum and just 4 weeks later little Willow was in the cage! Completely out the blue! Her mum didn't appear pregnant at all. So we kept Willow. My partner is going to bury her with her Mum tonight.

I'm going to try reintroduce her cage mate to our other two females so she isn't alone. She used to live with them so I'm hoping it will be successful so everyone is happy
