So after guessing fly strike, little Toffee is undergoing twice daily treatment.
This morning took quite a while but he’s eating on his own - thank goodness.
He’s now back in his hutch after changing to fleece to keep his man bits extra clean during this period and Admiral Jellicoe has been kicked out into the extended run to give Toffee some peace n quiet.

Poor Toffee having flystrike! I hope he recovers soon. That is something I am always on the lookout for mine especially this summer as it has been exceptionally hot. I check their bums very carefully at the weekly check.

Poor Toffee. Hope you feel much better soon.
I had a rabbit about 20 years ago who suffered from flystrike, he made a full recovery. It also makes me feel sick and turns my stomach, keystroke is horrid.
Big hugs Toffee.xx

I dread finding fly strike on my piggies, I hate anything squirmy, but worse than, that, the fact that it could kill my piggys if I don't catch it in time

What treatment is he on? Flystrike can cause toxins to build up in the bloodstream. x
0.2ml Metacam
Flamazine Cream twice daily applied
Povidone Iodine Surgical Scrub applied once daily

His penis was clear, but he had approx dozen very small maggots (difficult to see on the naked eye) already in his anus but he was carefully cleaned and douched to rinse out.
He is very quiet. I'm topping up with syringe feeding twice daily to make sure he's not missing out on food as he's lost a fair amount of weight. I'm giving him pro-biotic in any case to boost an array of vitamins.

I'm hoping he will start to looking better soon. I do worry about him though.

I would be worried sick if mine had flystrike Lil. It sounds like you are doing all you can to make him comfortable and get him better. It takes a while. Has his weight stabilised yet? Or has he started to gain it?

Sending healing thoughts to Toffee. Hope he makes a speedy recovery. xx

He’s stable at the moment, but I’ve taken to feeding him as I couldn’t be sure he was eating enough and I’m glad I am. Naturally he’s getting syringed water too. He wouldn’t take the strawberries but he did eat spinach leaves today though.

Thank goodness I’m on holiday at home this week as it allows me to be focussed on his health.
I’m trying, but only time will tell.

Well Toffee isn’t doing so well, so I’ve found myself back at the vets, I wonder if there is more going on than the initial diagnosis of fly strike, but if it’s just fly strike then Baytril will have to be an option I would think. I do have pro biotic at home, but fingers crossed I think tonight is going to be touch and go if he’ll survive.

Sat in vets in tears, Toffee has deteriorated so badly, he was PTS a little while ago, vet was so concerned about how badly he went, he is going to do an autopsy. His bladder walls were very thickened and whilst his teeth weren’t great (courtesy of poor husbandry of his previous owners) he was given the best care possible. His partner in crime Jellicoe taught him a few tricks whilst he was with me. But I’m absolutely gutted.
I need to know why.

I am so sorry to hear this.
You gave Toffee the best possible chance to pull through.
I hope you find your answers.
You gave Toffee a second chance, giving him a wonderful home with so much love and care.
Look after yourself now as you grieve

So sorry to hear about poor Toffee. You did everything you could and I hope you find out the cause. Sending you hugs.
Sleep tight little one.xx

Huge hugs to you. What devastating news. I hope the results give some comfort

So sorry to hear this very sad news. Toffee had a wonderful life with you and you did your very best for him. Sending big hugs.
RIP little piggy.

So sorry to hear that Toffee has trundled of to the Rainbow Bridge. Sometimes the call is too strong and they have to leave us. He went knowing he was loved.
