ok, the food bowl I bought for the pigs recently ( I got another one to hook on to the side of the cage) and the thing is, the cage is designed so that when I fasten the dish onto the side my poor piggies can;t reach it , it is too high! the whole point of me buying this was so they could not tip over the dish and spill all their food all over the cage. I COULD buy a weighted dish but they would most likely bonk their heads on the dish as my girlies like to put their paws in the dish and knock it over, therefore I don;t want them to get head trauma by just trying to eat, shheeeesh! what should I do? anything anyone can recommend? sorry,. this just made me somewhat mad. grrrr

Well since it's too high for them when you attatch it to the wall, is there any way you could just put it in a lower position? If that's not an option then maybe you need to buy a new dish, something that can't be tipped over, like this:

BTW that's not mine, I found it on the internet :)

that would be a weighted dish and I am nervous that they may hit their heads on that or rather it hits their heads as it tips over. correct me if i am wrong here, but couldn;t those also tip over too?/

Well the thing is I had the same problem as you, my pigs put their feet on the edge of the bowl and it tips over. I got a bowl similar to the one in the picture, and I haven't had any problems since then, I think it's too heavy for them to tip. But you might have piggies with super strength, so I'm not 100% sure...:))

piggies with super strength! ROFL! hahaha soo funny, hey you never know... maybe I should try it out just to see...? and if there is any problems , well then....?/

Hey why don't you try both an then see which one your piggies like better?

Mine never tip their weighted bowls over! I think that is the way to go :))

I got mine weighted bowls, after I got sick of them knocking their lighter bowls over. They haven't managed to tip these ones over yet, and a couple of my boys are really big!
Occasionally they'll band into them when running laps around their cage, but they haven't caused any real injuries at all.

I picked some really good weighted rabbit bowls up for just 49p in Home Bargains a couple of weeks ago - much better than the pets at home one that was so thin it cracked after a few weeks and that I paid £3.99 for.rolleyes

mine have heavier bowls which are made alot heavier when they decide to sit on top of them all the time lol the lighter bowls used to get destroyed by my boars.

My pig Cookie has got a ceramic heavy one which she can't tip over even if she tried. Maisey i've had to give her my old hamster's metal food dish for now because i've got another dish like Cookie's but because she's still small, her head can't reach the bottom properly, so i've given her the metal one, though some of the food does spill out lol. When she gets bigger i'll replace it with the other dish.

awww how cute to be that small bless her. x

ok thanks guys i will try the heavier ceramic bowls, I was just worried they might tip those over too and injure themselves.... anyway, what they have now is a plastic gladware dish and they are constantly tipping that one over. Today, hopefully, I will get another bowl that is heavier.

mine used to tip the lighter ones over but i think the weight of the ceramic put them off as they dont do it to that. x

Mine have always had the ceramic weight bowls and ive never had any problems with them hurting themselves on them.
