Hi, we got a pair of bonded male GP’s approx 1 year old last week.

First few days they were settling in but over the weekend we’ve had them out and have noticed one of them has a problem with his front leg/foot.

It turns inwards at the ankle ? And he is walking on the outside of the back of his foot if that makes sense. Looks like club foot or some sort of deformity but I assume could also be an injury.

He is eating/drinking well and is happily chattering away to his cage mate. He also seems to be running around on it fine, isn’t limping and doesn’t appear in pain but is holding the leg close and not putting it down flat to the floor.

I’m going to ring the vet in the morning, any experienced GP people have any advice?

I’ll try and attach some photos.

Hi!

I am very sorry; it can happen occasionally. There is unfortunately very little you can do.

@Dindypig can help you with care tips.

Thank you for the reply, do you know what causes it?

He seems happy enough I’m just concerned he’s in pain or uncomfortable but he doesn’t seem it, he sat lovely munching on some lettuce while I trimmed the nails on that foot (which were very long).

It can be a genetic weakness/birth defect. I recently saw a case in of two siblings in a rescue born litter from an intake of pregnant sows from a bad background in an Australian Rescue.

Aw, your boys are absolutely gorgeous! I have no experience with this, a vet might be able to tell you if it’s just a birth defect or a previous injury, I’m sure he will manage fine which ever x
