Yey, more pigtures/videos!
Love them both, but do have a soft spot for Tesni, she is a long haired version of my Storm (RIP). x)x)x)
Is Caron still looking after them?
x

They are getting plenty of attention from the Tribe (including some flirting with Hywel)!

Are they now in with the tribe? Is Hywel pleased to see more ladies?!
They look incredibly settled already xx

Wiebke, please can we have a piggy dictionary?

Your poor piggies would be horrified if I told them how I *thought* their names were pronounced :))

We are having LOTS of fun at the vets, too! :(|)

Hywel = "Howell"
Hafina = Hah-VEE-nah
Nerys = Neh-ris
Nia = Nee-ah
Cariad = Kar-yad
Ceri = "Kerrie"
Caron = Car-on
Ffowlyn = Fowl-in
Tanni = Tan-nee/Tun-nee
Tesni = Tess-nee
Ffwlbri = Full-bree
Taffy = "Toughee"/Taffy
Tegyd = Tegg-id
Terfel = Ter-vel

Telyn = Tell-in
Llewelyn = Tkhloo-ELL-in
Ffion = Fee-on
Fflur = Fleer

Welsh pronounciation; the biggest differences:
C = always k
Ff = f
F = v
W = * (as in full)
* = i/ee (as in bid or feel)
Y = still working on it msyself, as it has differend pronounciations: * (like in fun), urgh, i/e
Dd = soft th (like in mother)
Ll = tkhl or khl (took me months to get right) - you make it like an L, but with the underside of the tongue tip against the top of your mouth, so it ends up as kind of a clicky KH car crashing into a L sound.
Ch = kh (like in Scottish "Loch" )

Enjoy!

Working as a veterinary receptionist, if someone comes in with a difficult to pronounce pet name (or even their own surname!) I ask them "who have we got here" and then quickly write a phonetic version on the pets file!

Where did the welsh theme come from (apart from wales!)?

I'm also disappointed to find that Ffowlyn isn't pronounced "fluff-fluffle-wen" like it is in my head!

Llewelyn was a Welsh rescue piggy and he kept his name (including Welsh pronounciation!) when we rehomed him in 2007 because my hub - who is a Welshman - loved it. So I started to give any new piggy a Welsh name from then on. Over the last couple of years, they have grown into the Tribe. However, hub calls them all simply "guinea pig" when he speaks to them... mallethead

I love the pronounciation you came up with Amanda! I got it wrong too - and have been calling Hywel - hi-well in my head!

Did your new arrivals placate your OH by arriving with more railway bits at the same time Wiebke?!

xx

hahaha bad Mr Wiebke!

I'm glad Cameo didn't come with a Welsh name, or I'd be stumped! I struggle to speak English!

They placated him by producing no car mileage for him! Piggy rescue visits hold about the same charm for him that a railway model shop holds for me! zzzzzzzzz

My boyfriend used to work in a model railway shop zzz

I got roped in to helping out on the james mays toy stories thing with the model railway zzz

We were supposed to lay 100 yards of track in the carpark..... 7 miles later.... rolleyes

Hub can't really complain - his model railway has now jumped from the work surface at one end of his office to the server/printer rack and is on its way to the window supposedly running behind the computer screens... Just don't tell our customers! :)) However, what is the fascination of watching a train going round and round and waiting for it to derail, is still beyond me! Give me a piggy anytime... You must love your OH very much, too!

As we are running a small business from home, it is good to have a pastime each that fills the slow intervals between the chaotic times (but when you still have to stay close to the computer) and it keeps us from getting on each other's wick too much.

Could he create a piggy food train? I am sure the tribe and trio wouldn't mind if their veggies arrived via steam power!

Not massively excited by model trains but I do love railways and trains in general - put it down to a childhood of being taken to train events, scenic railways etc. Plus I lived by a station when I was at uni, and love the sound of trains. Have horrified OH by telling him that when we buy a house it needs to be as close as possible to a train line! At least we should get a bargain! :))

This idea has been brought up... :(|) As well as a "piggy train" from the house to the lawn!

:)) :)) This is the best idea ever on the forum!

Thanks for the Video and the Pigtionary, it is so useful I can now pronouce your piggies names rather than what is in my head, I think Welsh names are lovely sounding!

I can't get over Ffwlbri she is x)

He's also been known to call me Guinea pig when handing the phone over to you LOL.
I allways thought Ff = eff like capital F little f said slightly distinct as in Effion = Ffion.

David does know me know me now that he's met me and can put a face to my voice, we all know he loves the piggies enough to expand further into the living room.

Lovely pictures and videos - they seem so comfortably "at home" already. And the ensuing conversation (re names) has been fascinating.
