I've been asking alot about forage lately but I've finally made a tub if forage for my boys it has all dried forage it has grass, dandelions, pansies, stinging nettle, mint and some cut up toilet role holders because my boys really enjoy them and they smell super good from being in with the nettles as they dried. I took a sniff of the mixture and it smells so good omg. The pigs are loving it today is the first time them trying this blend. I'm having so much fun collecting forage and drying it and it's even more enjoyable seeing them love it 15901815275868700639798936365863.webp

I have lots of hazelnut trees in my garden, brambles non the "wild" bit and the wild Alpine Strawberries have taken over! It's lovely seeing how the garden at the house I moved into 6 months ago is coming alive. Guess I'll be drying lots of forage too.
So jealous you have a garden to grow in 😐

Forraging for free healthy food for your pigs is really satisfying, keep it up. I've been picking nettles and drying them out aswell. The pigs can't get enough.

Piggies love to chew cardboard and loo rolls tubes are a cheap way to give them some enrichment. You need to cut down the side of them and if you fill them with hay and goodies then piggies have more fun. If you are worried that the loo roll tubes have toilet germs on them (some people do) pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds on high power (something I learnt when I was a Childminder in another life).

But it’s cardboard, it has no nutritional value at all. It’s meant to be used as a toy...
It's mental stimulation for them. If you're worried about the nutritional value put some hay in there with some hidden treats inside like a bit of cucumber, bell pepper or some forage.

I’m not worried about it, I don’t feed my pigs cardboard. I just thought it was strange to mix bits of it in their food. I wouldn’t want mine to fill up on something that’s not good for them at all. If they get a toilet paper roll it’s stuffed with hay for them to pull out and play with

I think Betsy is filling the loo rolls with hay etc - just like you do luckyandsammy ! I don’t think she is ‘feeding ‘ her piggles cardboard 😊

I was asking the OP, as they said they have mixed them with forage. You can also see bits of cardboard in the photo. 😁

You are correct. I should have explained myself more specifically. I do not feed my piggies cardboard. They do love a Carrot Cottage and a hay cube.View attachment 147228View attachment 147229
Mine used to love the cottages but with 6 piggies in 4 separate cages I don’t buy them anymore. They are so expensive ☹️ Maybe one day as a treat 😆

Cardboard is actually a very good source of fibre, which is essential for gut motility, many piggies will use cardboard eating to help balance their guts after a minor tummy upset! Lots of healthy poops after a bit of cardboard chewing. And its very good for the teeth. Great enrichment too, lots of fun to be had eating a plain brown cardboard box or a brown paper bag :)

Hi @RicoandRocky Sorry for the late addition to the post! My girls have just been given some really lovely forage for Christmas and I was wondering how often you give yours forage? Is it daily or just a treat? Thank you!

when it comes to forage, it depends entirely on what type it is - some can be fed daily, some less often. If you tell us what you have then we can help further
