Hi everyone,

the day before yesterday I finally got around to built a second level for my C&C cage so my newly rescued piggies Pom-Pom and Moonpig could live in the living room and Yoshi could have someone to talk to as well. Here is the finished cage, Yoshi lives upstairs at the moment and the girls downstairs.

Yesterday evening Yoshi totally freaked out at me, I was just bringing in the veggies and he behaved very strangely, running panicky from one wooden house to the next and then he jumped up the wall, I have never seen him jump that high or behave like that! My finacee thought it would be a good idea to get him out to check if he had hurt himself....so we he tried to get Yoshi who was still frantically running and jumping like mad and Yoshi ended up jumping out of his cage, onto my fiancee's leg and then on the floor where I caught him. I sat down on the sofa with him and checked if he hurt himself, but he seemed alright. I tried to tempt him with some food but he just sat there with eyes wide open and brrrrr-ing at me.

I put him back after he had calmed down a bit and he just run into his house. In the night about 2:50am my fiancee woke me up and said "Can you hear that noise?". I just woken up and hurt this clicking sound and went downstairs to check on Yoshi but of course the sound stopped. When I went back to bed my fiancee said that the sound had been going on for a while, it sounded like a exotic bird chirping. I thought "Awwwwwwww I know what that is, it was one of the guinea pigs chirping!".

When I came downstairs this morning Yoshi hadn't eaten anything out of his bowls (I had put some cucumber and basil into his house for the night though) and he still seemed a bit scared. I made them veggies as usual and just put some in his house and he started eating them, still a bit vary of me. I stroked him a bit and he started purring at me (which he has done a lot since the girls moved in) so he seems a bit more relaxed now.

I don't know what could have scared him that much, the only thing I can think of is that I scared him when I got the girls out for a cuddle yesterday evening, it's a bit awkward to catch them as they haven't been handled a lot and I might have bumped my head on the bottom of the second floor. I got them out yesterday afternoon as well, but then he was just fine.

He gave me quite a fright, I hope he will calm down some more and come out of his house on his own again soon. Poor boy!

he might just not be used to the girls smell, has he only recently been moved closer to them?

Actually he's been around them for about 3 weeks now, they used to be in the conservatory and he had floor time there and has been talking to them and sniffing them before.

Perhaps something in his new home and set up has spooked him!

i dont know then, but I'm sure someone with more knowledge will come along soon :)

Might be, it's just that he moved in there 2 days ago and the setup is still the same, even the houses are at the same place, only thing is that he lives a bit higher now. He was behaving totally like himself after the move, just yesterday he got totally spooked!

What I just thought of, my fiancee was looking into the cage this morning and he thought he saw a shadow jumping down from one of his houses but then said his eyes probably just played a trick on him as there was nothing there. Maybe we have a guinea pig ghost!

WOW - never heard of that!

Hopefully, Yoshi is OK? I love your set-up!

Thank you :). Yeah, I think he is just fine, he eats the veggies I put in his house and earlier he was by the bars at the back of his house, looking down, talking to the girls and nibbling on the bars. He's back in his house now, still a bit scared when I come to the cage. I've put his water bottle closer to his house as well, I hardly ever see him drink but just in case. Oh, he has just checked it out!

random thought:
could he be upset by noises from the girlies below him, which he can't see? it must be like hearing the downstairs neighbours' flat, but not being able to see or talk to them.

I really don't know...he knew straight away that there were piggies below him 2 days ago, he was standing at the bars sniffing and talking to them. They even squeak together for veggies, everytime they even moved downstairs he got excited and started talking to them again and walking around his cage looking for them :)).

I've put some grass in earlier and he was brave enough to come almost out of his house to eat some of it. I'll try take him out for a cuddle later and see how he reacts. I was just really shocked because I have never seen him like this, he is usually quite calm, I can pick him up without too much trouble, he eats out of my hand, I can stroke him and even climbs into my lap if I have veggies for him. If he is scared he usually just freezes or runs into his house but he's never acted like he's just seen the devil :{.
