So having a Guinea pig addiction I cannot help Guinea window shopping. Now i have a pair this habit has lessened but still...

I found myself on a freead site today and found two ads in my local area that worried me. One was a rabbit and Guinea pig being sold together and would not be sold separately because they are so well bonded. It looked like they were in an indoor cage which was slightly worrying bur otherwise they seemed well cared for.

The second was a single boar (if you know me I have an intension to get my girls a boar-friend at some point in the future). He was in what looked like a wired cage that you find advertised for chinchillas worst of all WITH WIRED FLOORS! The poor guy must have terribly sore paws. The reason for selling him was that their dog kept jumping at the cage and scaring him. Poor guy. He made the thought of extending my little herd sooner than expected very tempting indeed. His situation must be so grim...

They make me so sad too, don't know why I look.

There is an ad for 2 Guinea Pigs, not far from here. They are being sold as they now have a puppy so are unable to care for them anymore.

:td:

I hope those piggies will find a better family... sometimes unlucky piggies end by being loved by someone else. My two piggies, too, were surrendered after the arrival of a puppy who used to bark at them. There are a lot of bad stories all around and of course we cannot save the world... It is better to give them up for adoption than to abandon them next to a bin (as here in Italy it often happens)

It makes me sad too :( I have taken in 3 free add piggies over the past 4 years. Sadly fudge passed away just over a year after I got him, it broke my heart he was beautiful! And I still have Florence and billy who is the most recent one.

No matter how many times I see them I cannot think of even 1 reason why they do it. Fudge was given away to the previous owner and then to me though gumtree. It was because he used to bite and was quite nasty. I bonded him with my frankie who has also left us for rainbow bridge, they were the best of friends. And with time fudge learned to love and he turned out to be an angel.

They should give them to a rescue instead of doing that or put an adoption fee of £5 to put off potential breeders, snake feeders and other cruel people. I often message them telling them not to give them away for free but they mostly don't reply!

I also have seen some adds selling guinea pigs in very poor conditions which also worries me because no person is not going to pay £60 for 2 guinea pigs and a cage when the cage is caked in crap and way too small that they will only want to replace when they get them home anyway! Even if someone was to "save" them £60 is a lot of money and doesn't stop the owner doing it again! So even people that sell them are cruel and negligent towards them. It disgusts me to be honest! I have literally had to stop myself looking because I get so damn angry! But hopefully they find their feet in a loving home and not in the hands of a cruel person.

I see your based in Nottingham, you could contact Avalon guinea pig rescue to see if they could contact the seller and take the piggies in if you see any in future :)

I am also saddened by these online sites. It amazes me how many people keep pets in totally unsuitable and sometimes unsatitary cages.

I go to recues because you are sure of healthy guinea pigs and you free up a rescue space.
