I have just posted on freecycle for green veggie cuttings etc!
I didn't realise how funny it sounded, I got an e-mail from the group moderator.

Tracy - just approved the post. I have this mental picture of you living on veg just to keep the guineas in the greens to which they've become accustomed. Sorry - I really must do something with my sense of humour, but you have brightened my day..

I do hope the Whitby members come to your rescue - certainly not one of the more usual requests on the group but definitely what Freecycle is all about.

On a more practical note - ( and if all else fails) aren't there any greengrocers who'd give you their trimmings (or even one of the hotels/restaurants, though you'd have to be careful about meat contamination from those). Just a thought.

I only posted as I was having sunday lunch yesterday in a local hotel and it was mentioned about them throwing all the cuttings away. They refused to let me have them incase I blamed them for poisoning the piggies.

Don't get me wrong I don't mind buying veg etc.... but in my small town it is limited and we seem to be living off cauli at the moment as they won't eat the flower but love the leaves.

I feel a bit :embarassed: now!

I asked my local shop if I could buy there veg which was 1 day past its sell by date and they said they could not sell it even if it was for animals because e could eat it, get sick and sue them.
It was never like that in the old days.

may be there are local allotments near by >:D

My posh friend, took her kids to the park on day, we went to her house later in the day and she had this tree in her car, she asked my OH to help her get it out... She had only stole it from the park!
Now if her boss found out she would of lost her job.

My mum keeps chickens (for eggs - not meat!) and all of her neighbours leave their bags of 'gubbins' on the gate of our house - if they go on holiday sometimes there's lots of festering greens on their return!

Local veg shop would probably let you have stuff that is either waste e.g cauliflower outer leaves, or that they can't sell.

Same with newspapers - people leave them on my doorstep now!

We don't have any veg shops around here! ::) They have been taken over by the supermarkets! Still good idea about freecycle. I am all for making savings! :D

One of my colleagues used to bring me the outside of cabbage leaves and carrot bits from her Sunday dinner. She left a few months ago though. She met up with a friend a few days ago and she gave her a little bag of greens for me! Thought it was really sweet of her.

I think thats a good idea really O0 I like saving too :D my family normally bring veg and that they have spare to my house like bag fuls of it :)

I used to get bags of greenary for my piggies out of the bins behind a local greengrocers, they were happy for me to do it.... But not anymore :(. What is the world coming too when we can't use the stuff they throw out?

some one on here collects all the leaves etc in tescos from the veggie section where they have fallen off, I thought that was a fab idea havent had the guts to do it myself yet lol

I have negotiated with Lidl! If I go in and the leaves are out in the shop I can take cauli leaves but they cant keep them for me or give me what they have taken out the back.

But every little helps, I was getting sick of seeing cauliflower cheese!
