It's in the title, how do you feel about freedom day as they call it? It seems very soon, none of the rules will apply in England. As of yet I am unsure if Scotland, Wales and NI will also take this approach.

I was pretty shocked when I heard the announcement.
I understand is a deeply personal thing, but I am quite relieved I won't be in the Uk when the new rules are applied.
I think it is too soon to remove the mask rule, particularly as vulnerable people will be placed in situations where they have to be close to people who choose not to wear a mask.

I’m not sure to be honest…particularly about the one of fully vaccined people and children under 18 not having to self isolate. They could be asymptomatic and pass it onto others who aren’t vaccinated. And not sure about the masks being stopped either. Some people don’t socially distance, even when others try.

The other worry is removing all these restrictions and then having to reinstate them…after saying there would be no need…

I thought Mask wearing and Social distancing would stay, it seems mad. Especially just now, as the UK's Covid rates are increasing; we seem to relying completely on the vaccines. I really think the plan is herd immunity, I just hope we don't all suffer with long Covid.

I think everything is going! Social distancing and wearing masks in shops etc. I don’t know that people will still wear them when it’s left up to them. And yes to the increasing daily rates.

I think shops could still insist customers wear masks (unless medically exempt) whether they do or not!
I think it’s too early and too much all at once. I certainly won’t stop wearing a mask and likely won’t be going to restaurants / cinemas etc

I thinks it's good in the sense of , it's now or never . Got to take the plunge and not stand on the edge of the cliff forever . That being said it is risky aswell . But if we trust in the vaccine then trust in the professionals making the decision .

I think mental health is playing a big role in this now . And the fact the if we don't do something soon , when will it happen . How long do you wait ? How many varients are coming ?

Far too much too soon. I didn't agree with lockdowns in the first place but they put us through all that to go and blow it now before everyone who wants a vaccine has had one.
After practising wearing a mask for weeks to be able to keep it on long enough to get round a supermarket I won't be giving mine up, it's too soon. I've become very attached to my piggy ones.
Scrapping school bubbles a few days before the end of term, why didn't they wait until the schools return in September?

Dropping class/year bubbles doesn’t come into effect until 16 August so most schools are still going to be in bubbles for the rest of this academic year (term ending in the w/c 19 July) and the change will only affect them from September

I think everyone who comments and everyone who has all have good points . It's such a mess to think about and for anyone to try and sort out . Every tactic will have it's negatives .

I do agree it's better now than in the middle of winter..but no ones telling them those are the only 2 flipping options! I dont see why mask wearing or social distancing in shops etc has to be done away with? I will still be wearing my mask to keep others safe and I'm going to just have to hope those around me do the same to keep me safe. For at least until I'm double jabbed in August but probably longer.

What happened to going by the data, not dates? The scientists don't seem to agree with these ideas at all that I've seen. Seems crazy. I hope it doesn't backfire.

I'm looking forward to going back out double crewed, I've been single crewed for 16 months, spending 8 hours on my own in the patrol car, I've started talking to myself, and what's worse is I've started replying! :yikes:

Agree with this completely, couldn’t of worded it better myself x

I'd had it when you just said replying to yourself . Sorry but 🤣

I think they are going for a mass push in herd immunity, I see no other reason to remove all restrictions and protection apart from vaccine, they expect high cases and want to get them out way before winter. I think it is reckless, but no more so than the UK Govt whole approach has been at most points.

I don't see the reason for removing masks otherwise. Social distance I understand has to go in various sectors for the economy like nightlife - but masks gone in all settings - really?
I hate how libertarian they are, masks protect others - so people will wear them to protect others - but if 'others' aren't wearing them then it all falls down. I want a govt to lead not say it is a personal choice... There is no 'I' in this pandemic only 'us' our actions effect others

Personally I will continue to wear my masks in public spaces like shops.
It’s about caring for others as part of a community and respecting other, especially those still vulnerable.
We have to hope the majority of people will behave responsibly and care for others.

I stopped wearing a mask after my second vaccine as I am medically exempt and it was causing a lot of meltdowns and sensory issues. I think everyone should have the right to chose whether they wear one or not especially now that the death rate has fallen so low. I do think they should still be widely available and work places should still be expected to provide them for their workers.

It's way too soon. Totally irresponsible.
I've been isolating for a month or 2 before lockdown came into force and I'll continue to do so/interact minimally. I don't go far anyway and have to be careful.

I had to go out for an appointment today and popped into a few shops as I needed a few bits and it was like there was no pandemic. Only 10 people I saw wearing masks and had people breathing down my neck and bump into me despite me leaving more than 2m between people they insist on getting as close as possible. I'm only 5'2 so also had lots of people reaching over me and sweaty pits in my face. How I didn't punch or offend someone I don't know...

That was enough. So I'm dreading 'freedom' day.

I think I will still wear my mask when going around the supermarket or shops, both of which I try to avoid if I can anyway. I'm not one for going out much so would rather continue seeing just a few people in circumstances I can control/feel comfortable in.
The distancing thing has been hard at school with the children I work with and I'm sure there will be guidelines for when we return in September but it concerns me.
I do think we have to learn to live with it and things have to open up more fully for people's health and the economy but I don't know if everything should just stop, all the effort and sacrifice people have made are we just going to throw it all away? No one has the right answer because this has never happened before, I wouldn't want to be the one making the decisions because whatever you do it won't be right for everyone, you can't please all of the people all of the time, I think if I continue to try and be careful and do my small bit I know I've done what I can, in the grand scheme of things it's not much but keeping the people around me safe will have to be enough.

I have mixed views, but I do think we need to get back to as near as normal, as soon as possible. I see no benefit leaving the unlocking till September and into the Autumn. We might as well live with higher cases now in the summer months as we may have to battle flu later in the year too. Children will be off school soon which acts as a buffer so let’s hope cases are levelling off by the time they go back in September. I will wear my mask out of courtesy for other people (shop workers etc) when I am in a shop/supermarket or confined inside areas, or when asked to do so. I will also carry on hand washing/sanitising too

I don't even realise I'm wearing a mask now . In actual fact I feel more confident out and about wearing a mask . Don't know why but I just do. So il continue to wear it . But on building sites , I have to say , they are non existent indoors . They don't care
