Hi
I've heard some things about people growing things like herbs and grass for their piggies to eat fresh. I started growing some grass and coriander(I'm getting basil soon) and I am thinking about eventually making an area in my pigs cage with the fresh grass and herbs for him to forage and eat fresh stuff. I was just wondering if there is a specific type of soil to use so its safe or if you have any tips or things to avoid.
Thanks.

I’m not sure on the type of soil. I’ll be using some compost I got last year, I think that should be fine. I don’t know anything you need to avoid either really. Good luck.

Generally anything added to the soil is just to benefit the plant while it’s alive so there’s no harm with using a soil with added ferts. Just try to stay away from stuff with added pesticides (if that’s even a thing?). I personally use whatever potting soil we have lying around.

As long as the soil is chemical free and has no fertiliser it should be fine. If you want to add a fertiliser, guinea pig droppings work well as a fertiliser and obviously it is safe.
