Hi everyone,

I have never given my piggies any fruit at all as I know it is full of sugar and not good in large amounts. However, I have a nursing sow at the moment and I was wondering if it was okay to give some fruit? Also, what fruit is best to give and what amount?

anything not too acidic. i wouldn’t recommend something like pineapple. maybe banana or apple. google it first if you’re not sure

You wouldn’t treat a nursing sow any different to any other piggy when it comes to fruit. And that is that it is ok to give but only a tiny piece no more than once a week. Exotic and fruits with stones need to be avoided and all others kept limited and ensuring acidic fruits (including tomatoes) are strictly limited (to avoid cheilitis).

It is rare that my two get fruit at all, but if I happen to feel generous(!) they may get a very thin slice of apple.

Hi!

To be honest, piggies do not need fruit; a much better treat are different fresh herbs, speciality hays or forage. Readygrass in small quantities is also fine. ;)

Thank you! I don’t think I’ll bother then

If you happen to have fruits in for yourself then the occasional piece won't hurt. Mine get them very rarely but have had blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and apple

I agree with all the above, my piggies rarely get fruit and most of them dont actually like it much, but very occasionally my skinny pig and her husboar get half a strawberry or a couple of blueberries or a small slice of apple each if I just happen to have some in the fridge!
