One of my boars coat seems to be sensitive especially on his back. He jumps and chats loads when you touch him or part his coat . I can't see any redness or flaky skins but ice given him a bath with gorgeous guinea shampoo for fungal skin . His fur felt a bit stuff and dirt on the back compare to the rest of him. I've disinfected his run and put clean fleece down
Any ideas what it could be?

Is he scratching more than usual?

Not that I've noticed and we handle the boys everyday
I think it could be where I put the flea ointment on that was a while ago?
He's moulting a fair bit but thought that's normal?

Could it be his grease gland? I have never had a problem with it on mine, but they can get dirty and infected.

I would get him checked for mange mites, my pigs tend to react like that when they have them. My preferred treatment is a round of Ivermectin injections at the vets.

What was the flea ointment and when did you put it on?

Fungal is also a possibility, does the hair come out easily when tugged gently?

If it is mange mites the hairs may be broken half way down the shaft.

Can you see a V at all in his hair? this would be a sign of either mange mites or a fungal condition called broken back.

For fungal I would treat with Imaverol dips. I can give you the link once you know what you are dealing with.

Ok thanks I gave him a bath with gorgeous guinea pig shampoo for fungal just incase. Nothing that I can see but I'll book him in to see the vet as he has a foot spur!

Hi all
Izzy was checked over by the vet and said he's a very healthy piggy. The only thing to be careful is his weight!
She could not find anything in his fur
