It's been a while since I've been on, been real busy, applied to the navy! :D wish me luck. (: But anyways, my concern today is that I hurt a sort of gurgling, gaggy sound coming from my boy's cage I realized it was Walter, and he was gagging as if he were going to throw up, but to my understanding guinea pigs can't throw up. So what was it, or what do you guys think it was? When he noticed me standing there, he stopped, so i don't think the "gagging" was involuntary. Any advice?

Good luck with that. :)

Are you sure he just did not eat too fast? Sometimes my girls do it and make a choking sound but they are just clearing their throat.

thanks :D and naaw i don't think it was that he was at the other end of his cage and it didn't sound like choking it sounded like a cat does as it's about to spit up a hair ball.?/

Hi,

You're pretty much right about the gagging - piggies don't really have a gag reflex like us. It could be that he had some food stuck in on the roof of his mouth. This has happened to both our boys when they eat parsley too quickly. Leafy veg is probably the worst for this. It's not usually a problem but if it goes on for a while it can be. Walter was probably trying to kind of cough the food off the hard pallet on the top of his mouth. Is he ok now?

:)

How ironic, I'm just sat watching the herd and both my Ozzie and Pickle have just had a little 'gagging' episode. I'm not sure what it means? Theyre very bright tho. They have all been tearing around the run lots and are all in a bit of a frenzy, one sow is in season so my neutered boy Oz is stiring the girls up lol. They probably got some food stuck?

x.

I have heard my pigs 'choke' before, they have been eating too fast and then they choke and they are fine again. Its probably nothing at all to worry about.
