here we go again with the illnesses. I was spot cleaning when I heard Brutus squeak. I thought maybe his bladder stone was moving so I pet him. But then it stank really bad, and he was back to his normal self. This has been happening for a few days now. It couldn’t be anything I feed him… I give him a strip of romaine and celery/bell pepper/etc once a day. What should I do?

Hello. I used to have a piggy who had smelly wind. We used to call him cauliflower bum. 😃.

If you weigh him daily for a few days you can monitor his hay intake. Just to make sure he is eating ok. Keep a close eye on him to make sure he hasn’t got bloat.

Obviously get him to the vets if you are worried.

Hi!

Please take your boy off any fresh veg to allow his gut microbiome time to right itself again.
It can be that if he has got an existing bladder stone that the pain is impacting on the gut, which wraps itself around the urinary tract.

Should I be worried about the gas though? He seems to be squeaking every couple hours then let’s put a fart…

How often was your guinea pig passing gas (weird question I know)

If it is that regular, please see a vet for painkillers and a gut stimulant. The stone is becoming a real problem now. :(

My boar didn’t have a bladder stone. If the stone is playing up I would speak to the vet. A couple of times a day maybe. It was a few years ago now. 😃

I will speak to the vet as soon as I can. He passes gas like 2-3 times a day. Could it be because I have given him oxbow simple rewards? I give them once a day.

Before I call the vet, should I use meta cam from past vet visits? I can confirm that he has a pink tint to his urine, but he doesn’t squeak. In past experiences with his stoneI have never even thought of him passing gas… Is it a possibility that it could be the Oxbo treats or the tinted urine causing the gas? I haven’t seen him pass gas yet today.

Please don’t give anything to him that has not been prescribed for him by the vet. Please call the vet.

Called the vet, she wasn’t worried since the farting has drastically calmed down. She said it’s a side affect of the stone or because of not enough vegetables (we started vegetables up two weeks ago slowly introducing more because of soft poops) so she said if the gas starts back up make an appointment. As of now he’s fine

Is he not going to have the stone removed? Boars have an odd bend in their system where stones can get stuck. This can lead to a real emergency.

the vet did an xray when we first got him, he has a stone that is too big to even start to go down the urethra. she said it isnt a concern, but the stone does move around sometimes, which causes the tinted urine.

i had a guinea pig before brutus, he originally had a uti, but then developed a really small stone which we thought he could pass, but it got stuck in that bend. RIP Frank (the one in my profile pic) :(
