HI

This is just for a general overview to see what generally, how much of it and how often you give your piggy veg?

The reason for it is to see if I am over feeding my piggy vegetables!:)

I tend to give my piggy a leaf of greens in the morning when I leave for work, if he goes up to my mums he has some carrot in the day, about a inchs worth, if not when i get home at 6ish, then evening he has some pak choi (leaf).

I do give him other treats if I am about, such as a bit of parsley, Lettuce, broccoli leaves (abnd he loves the big stem to munch on!), dandelion leaf, cherrys, the green on strawberry tops! rose petals - which he loves! cauliflower leaves jsut to name a few! I also tend to vary what i give him each day in the the above description.

I don't think you can overfeed a piggy mine are just eating machines, They have fresh hay and pellets in constant supply and they get a bowl of mixed veg for breakfast and one again at about 6 varies according to whats in the fridge they are also hand fed treats like herb leaves or dandelions in abundance by my daughters and keep our grass down for us.
Very spoilt piggies i have decided i want to come back as one:)p:)p

I feed 10 different veggies a day 5 in the morning and 5 in the evening

So for the morning they would have:
1 Large Romaine leaf
1/2 inch of carrot
1/2 inch of celery
1/2 inch of cucumber
1/8th green pepper

For the evening meal:
A handful of spinach
1 cherry tomato each
2 green beans each
1 floret of brocolli each
1/2 inch of corn round or 2 baby corn each

Then for the next day I would change the greens I use watercress, round lettuce, cabbage, kale and curly lettuce. Or anything else I find that they can have in the supermarket. :)

The key is little and often you don't have to go mad, they like to eat constantly but I found overdosing on the veg can cause more harm than good especially with problems such as bloat. :)

Mine eat and eat and eat! i feed them twice a day and weigh theem 3 times a week.i only know two obese guineas and they have problems with impaction and cysts due to being fat.But they are at least twice as big as mine and are the biggest pigs i have ever seen! like small bunnie sized!

My rescue guineas get morning:
1 small carrot each
1/4 apple each
1leaf of silverbeet each
slice of either tomato, cucumber, celery, broccoli or some parsley each
1/4cup of pelletts each.
they all get as much grass as they want all day
then heaps of hay and top up of pellets at night and some herbs or greens.
seems to be enough as they are starting to fatten up:)p

good, sounds like I not not giving him too much! I used to give my guineas when younger jus as much - if not sounds like I can give him more!:))

He obviously gets his hay and normal food as goes outside in the run for his grass, its good to hear what extras you al give your little babies!

My guinea put on 20gms in a week, is that alot?! Hes a small guinea compared to others I have, hes now 686gms at 5 months, but he looks so diddy!

Anyone else?! :)

20g is not a huge amount I've had pigs put on 125g in a week that was my biggest increase and was during the growth increase which is around 6-9 months. :)

aw shame! I was hoping for it to be a lot! :) Oh well I will have to keep feeding him lots more then to fatten him up!:))

Mine get about 8 different veg once a day. Hay and dried food in morning, hay and veg in night. x

Mine get half their daily pellets in morning and the other half of a night and hay throughout the day once its ran out. Sometimes they are slow to eat their hay just depend on their mood...lol I top up of a night too. :)

this is what mine get in one day (i vary it every day)fresh hay x twice a daydry food2 slices of cucumbers1 leaf of romaine lettucehalf a carrot eacha slice of pepper eachsmall piece of brocillihalf of baby sweetcorn

Uh OH ! malletheadmalletheadmallethead I feed my 2 guineas once a day but they get 5 slices of cucumber each, 4/5 leafs of lettuce or parsley/spinach, about 8/10 pea pods and a carrot each ! :0:0:0 Am I over feeding them ? :aLJFBQ00151070111C:

Depends how big the cucumber pieces are lol! Its best they get about an inch of each thing a day but not the same thing every day. With green beans and that type of thing i tend to give 8 per bowl, which is technically 4 per pig unless you have one like my Panda who digs them all out 1st and Ralf gets none lol! I think aslong as you try to vary it and not give exactly the same every day they should be fine! It wont kill them to have same thing twice! No need to be over the top with it, just try to vary it and keep things like spinach and kale to a minimum and they'll be fine! Dont worry! :) x

thank you to everyone for posting on here today! its good to get an insight to what different food our piggys like and how often they all eat! Keep adding to the list everyone!:(|)

Mine have a constant supply of hay and dry pellets are filled twice a day. They are only given fruit/veg once a day at dinner time - don't really give them specific things just whatever as I try to make it different every day to stop them getting bored. Sometimes they might get fruit/veg in morning - depends what I have and if I'm too busy rushing about the door. :)

mine have a leaf of cabbage per pig, if i have any romaine in they a get a leaf each of that, and 1 carrot per cage so half a carrot per pig. Then depending on what i have in they 4/5 other veggies sometimes more such as cucumber, cauliflower, broccoli, tomatoes, melon, mangetout, babycorn, peppers, courgette, bananna (once every so often) strawberries, grapes, apple, kiwi fruit, and from our garden they sometimes get a broccoli leaf really good growing broccoli as they cut all the leaves of in the supermarket and pigs go mad for them! they are as big as cabbage leaves when you grown them yourself! swiss chard, a variety of lettuce, and cabbage when i run out lol

they also have constant supply of hay and dry food.

mine get 4 types of veg twice daily, 2 other different types in between :)

Mine have a constant supply of hay & dried food. I top up as required, they get a handful of readigrass every other day & veggies once a day at t.time which usually consists of cucumber, tomato, celery, carrot, green bean either a spring green leaf, kale or a romaine leaf either melon, pear or apple & a herb 2-3 times a week; mint, dill, parsley, corriander or basil

my 2 get lettuce, kale carrots & a grape cut in half each + museli at aroud 7-30am then again in the evening when I get home from work. I've had them since March & they both gain either 35 or 40g each week. they are 5 months old now & weigh about 680g each

Mine have a constant supply of hay, and pellets the majority of the time.

They get about 5-7 veggies daily, which does them fine. They usually get it split into two meals, but sometimes it's just one.

Mine have hay and water all the time, a bowl of dry food (Burgess Excel) daily and type of veg depends what we have in the house at the time and the size fo the veggies, as some carrots etc vary in size. I have never weighed the amount of veg but go by how much I think they will eat without any being left over and they seem to be doing well on it.

If I run out of veg (usually happens day before shopping day) I pick extra grass for them perhaps a few fresh herbs or dandelions depending whats looking nice at the time.

The usual veggies I feed are..organic where possible

Broc.
Carrot
Cauliflower
Tomatoe
cucumber
Red pepper (although they wern't fond of it they seem to like it now)
Apple
Grape
Cabbage & sprouts- rarely as we rarely eat it ourselves

It all depends what we are eating ourselves, I gave them cooked peas a couple of times never again their wee tums were grumbling and they were a bit gassy lol.

The one veg in all the years I never tried was corn on the cob (except the dry one in the pet shops).
Not sure how you feed that. Do you get frozen ones and let them defrost, or do you buy vacume packed ones that seems to be the only available here except for tinned which of course is no good. They don't like strawberries which I thought strange who in the world doesn't like strawberries!

What I do also for the laugh is sometimes I don't chop up a tomatoe and watch them have to work a bit harder at eating it instead of just tucking in straight away.
