I was giving George a groom and I found that he has a lump above his grease gland. I'm worried about how long it's been there, he's smooth coated so he doesn't get groomed that often and it could easily be missed when stroking him.

The lump is on his lower back, slightly above and to the side of his grease gland. It's not hard, it almost feels like a blister as it's squidgy. It's just a bit smaller than a 10p coin.

Does anyone have any ideas of what it could be? He's booked in to see the vet tomorrow.

No idea sorry, could be a fatty lump though? Let us know how he gets on. Try not to worry to much often these things turn out harmless. Lots of love to George, will check back for updates x

I hope everything is okay. It could just be a fatty lump so try not to worry.

I agree try not to worry my Fred has a cyst on his back and has done for years, it doesn't cause him any problems and has been checked more than once by the vet - it's harmless. Hopefully your boy will get a similar diagnoses

One of my girls was diagnosed with a sebaceous cyst earlier today, I have been reading up on them and the lump you described fits the description of a sebaceous cyst. They're usually found on the back and rear end and are filled with a thick paste like substance. My girl only had a small one so the vet squeezed the pus out then gave it a good clean but I think they can also be drained with a needle.
Hope this has helped and good luck at the vets tomorrow.

It could be a fatty lump, a sebaceous cyst, or an abscess of some kind. My pig Linney had a similar lump near the grease gland- it was a cyst that had become abscessed. It was drained and cleaned, but kept refilling so eventually the entire capsule was removed surgically. She did make a full recovery, and it has been several years without any more issues.

We've got back from the vets. It turns out George has more lumps that I thought :(
It's not just the one on his back, he has some in his armpits. To be honest I don't go squidging around his armpits but I feel ashamed I didn't notice them.
The vet is pretty much 100% that all the lumps are fatty lumps. She's said they wont cause him any harm unless they get too big so I just need to monitor them. I suppose this is good news.

Hey that is not you fault. My Amina has a lot of fatty lumps as does Shereen and they are all harmless.
