Dear all fellow guinea pig lovers, George has a new girlfriend and he is absolutely smitten :smitten:
The first of the pictures is Mildred. She had just been brought back from the RSPCA to our house and was still in the cardboard box. She couldn't believe her little eyes when I put in a dish of veg and a pile of hay. It was so hard to choose her from more than 30 guinea pigs, I can't believe this woman who cares for them all aswell as rabbits, cats, dogs and hamsters, her house was just full of little darlings like Mildred wanting a lovely home. If any of you are local to lincoln and want some more guinea pigs i'm sure that the lady who cares for those others would be grateful. I wish I could have them all but my husband says that there will always be guinea pigs and other animals looking for a forever home that if I took all of them tonight the RSPCA would probably have more the following week.
Mildred is tiny, she's about 5 months old, I weighed her, she's only 400grams. George looks huge to her as he weighs 1100grams. I chose her because she looked really scared and her little chocalate brown patch over one of her eyes melted my heart.
When we got her home we let her have some space on her own. She is like most guinea pigs and does not like being picked up but she's fine when she is being cuddled. The place where she came from I doubt that the lady had enough time to keep on top of all the cleaning and feeding let alone cuddle each one so i'm sure that she will be a lot more relaxed in a couple of weeks.
My husband bought in George, he has had quite a day as he moved into his new house and run today which is huge, it has six different sleeping areas and the run is full of his tubes and other toys. I will take some more pictures tomorrow and put it under housing for you all to see.
George sat on my husbands knee whilst Mildred sat on mine and he saw her and that was it. I can honestly say George was absolutely in awe of her, I have never heard him make so much noise in all the time we have had him, he wheeked and squeaked and sniffed her and wheeked some more and licked her ears and face. She squeaked much quietly at George.
We decided that we should put them in the run to potter about together to get to know each other, however, I sat outside to watch them both for a while. George ran around the run and in and out of his tubes and house in excitement, following Mildred at times and sniffing her to check that she was really real.
Eventually after some time they went into one of Georges bedrooms and snuggled up. George snuggled down low in the straw as if he was totally content and Mildred looked happy by his side.
I'm thinking about them now as i'm writing this as I want to look at them because they are so cute together.
I will take some more pictures tomorrow and let you know how they both are. :)

Is George neutered ? They are absolutely gorg and look in love ;D ;D :smitten:

I go up skegness sometimes but is that lincoln ? Ive just googles it and it says lincolns an hour away yet skeg is 2 hours and my mum just said lincolns where we go to skeg 0:)

You said RSPCA so is this a centre or a womans house who fosters them ?

skegness is in lincolnshire, as you said i think its about an hour away from lincoln or something

Hi there,
The woman who cares for the animals is responsible for the small animals through Lincoln RSPCA, where she fosters them in her own home. Skegness is about an hour from Lincoln.
I think Mildred looks tinier than 5 months old, I think back to when we got George he was 5 months old and I seem to remember him being a bit bigger.

Oh right thats great O0 Does she do homechecks and do you have to give a donation to the centre or something :)

Morning,
I hardly slept last night. I was thinking about Mildred loads and wondering whether she was OK. I got up early this morning and found her snuggled up to George in one of the beds :smitten:
I felt really happy, but sad and thought about all the guinea pigs that I did not take home last night.
The lady who cares for the guinea pigs did not do a home check, however, she asked me loads of appropriate questions. I am going to email her some photos and details of how Mildred is though, I feel I ought to, so she can see how she is.
We gave her a donation for Mildred. Lots of the other guinea pigs were pregnant and/or close to having babies and some of the other tiny guinea pigs were the result of irresponsible people. She did ask if I wanted to take a pregnant female :o Maybe another time :) We do have the room for more and Georges house is divided into two halves and the run is big enough to be divided, maybe one day ;D I'm sure George would make a good stepdad. Infact I feel quite overwhelmed at how he has been so soft with Mildred and taken her under his wing. I feel quite bad that we did not think about him sharing his life with another guinea pig before :( although he has always seemed happy enough and has had lots of cuddles from me.
When we got George, we got him along with our rabbit Snoopy from Rushmoor country park and they were kept together there. They have always got on but didn't snuggle up together, then we introduced a cat flap to the back door for Snoopy, she practically lives in the house, I felt it right to get a ladyfriend for George.
When I go outside to clean out their house this morning I will see if I can get some more pictures of them :)
George would like to thank those of you who were so kind about how handsome he is, I thought it was sweet that there is another Georgie that looks like him :)I call George Georgie most of the time, my daughter says I talk to him like a baby, but then he is my baby and now I have two babies who I love to bits :)

George and Mildred look so sweet together :smitten: :smitten: , I talk to my 4 boys like they are babies. :smitten:
Hubby says the piggies get spoken to before him at times :D ;D
He says exactly what your hubby says, You can't recue them all.
Good on you for giving Mildred a loving home. O0
