Hi everyone, I’m stressing so much about Gertie - why do piggies get poorly when you are going on away.
She had bleeding from her bottom last year - the vet operated but couldn’t find anything wrong - it happened the beginning of February and at the end of March and now it’s started again. It only lasts about 3 days. The vets don’t know what it is as they can’t find anything wrong - other than maybe colitis due to food? She is fine in herself but it is stressing me out as I’m going abroad on Friday for a week. I’ve got a vet appointment 2moro. Is there any food that could cause this ? Or could she be catching herself on the shredded paper? Thanks for letting me vent xx

Hi!

I am very sorry about your ongoing problems. Is Gertie spayed?

Hi , she isn’t spayed - when it happened last year our original vet thought it was pyometra, but because they didn’t find anything, they didn’t go through with the spay xx

Have they checked for cancerous ovarian cysts?
This the most common reason from bleeding from sow genitalia in my experience on this forum.

Hi, they haven’t carried out any scans yet - 2 different vets have physically examined her all over and couldn’t feel anything - but I guess this would only show up on a scan? X

You can generally feel any larger ovarian cysts, but as this is a repeat, a throrough check including a scan might be a way forward.

Thank you so much Wiebke - I will speak to the vet again tomorrow and keep you posted x

Ellie- Ovarian Cyst, maybe Stones, Suggestions Please.

My Ellie kept getting uti's & bleeding heavily with undiluted looking blood.
She had an ultrasound and it was discovered to be an ovarian cyst approx 2-3cm diameter.

She had HCG Chorulon hormone injections, she had 2 that were 7-10 days apart.
They worked for her. She only had one heavy bleed afterwards & the cyst shrunk considerably within a few weeks.

Try asking your vet if these are a possibility for your little lady?

Good luck at the vets
Xx

A scan is what found Dot ( my sows) uterine tumour which does bleed on and off we think. Is getting operated on when simon is back

Hi everyone, the vet went ok - they tested her wee and it had blood in it. They have put her on Septrin Paediatric Suspension but they don’t keep it, so I’ve only got 2moro to try and find some 🤦‍♀️ The dose she has been given is 15 to 30mg/kg as per the vet’s small animal book - does this sound about right? I’m stressing now x

Thank you - I’ve just phoned my local pharmacy and the liquid has been discontinued anyway. Xx

I do wonder if your sow has the same problem as my sow. It took a long time to get a diagnosis on it

It’s very possible - I did mention it to the vet and a scan is the next option - I’ve had a quote which was a bit scary but will see how the antibiotics go and if she is no better when I get back I will definitely look at that option xx

Hi, my vet phoned me back this morning and they want to put her on Sulfatrim, but she isn’t 100% certain of the dose - does anyone have any ideas ? Many thanks x
