Hi, We took Gertie to Hillsbrooke Rescue today to choose her new friend. We tried her first with the cutest little girl called Jessica but they weren't too keen. Then out came Johnny and it wasn't quite love at first sight but they did seem to like each other after Gertie got over the shocck of Johnny keep trying to mount her.

The car journey home was peaceful with Gertie sleeping with her head on him and grooming him.

They are now running round the room together and playing in and out of paper bags though Gertie is now trying to mount him rolleyes

Ross says H.*.M.P.I.N.G lol

Thanks guys. They are currently playing who can boot the other one out of the paperbag. Even though there are 2 bags.

Good for Gertie! I always think the lady should take the lead! Who wants to wait to be asked?

Hi Sue,

Gert seems to be making most of the noise at the mo. Thanks for all your help today. I hope Jessica finds her perfect companion.

They seem to be getting on, spent the night curled up together under the coffee table. We weren't sure if Johnny had found the cage and run overnight so put him in it this morning and that is where they have both been all day once Gertie decided to pluck up the courage to get in there when Johnny was there.

There are still some rumblings on Johnny's part and squeaks on Gertie's but am assuming this is normal?

Here is an updated pic:

Rumblings and squeaks are totally normal - it's Johnny telling Gertie that he wants her and Gertie telling Johnny that she is interested, but not in season. You will learn to recognise the special squeak a girl has!

I am so glad that Johnny has been such a hit with Gertie - cross gender pairings are the most stable and usually very loving relationships in my experience. He is certainly a handsome boar!

He is isn't he. We have trouble working out which end is which when he is under the coffee table though :))

Thanks for the reassurance. We are still learning what all the noises mean.

UPDATE: Gertie and Johnny have turned into a right double act. Johnny has worked out how to get into the run and living room from the cage and wherever Gert goes you can guarantee Johnny is not far behind. When I chop their veg I turn round and there are 2 little faces at the kitchen door. So cute. They still have a few personal space issues but then so do we all. We cleaned the cage last night and Johnny was so excited he started popcorning.
