Did your piggies not like it? If it is a piggy food, they are fine to eat it, but if they are being fussy instead of throwing it away I'd give it to a rescue centre - They will appreciate the donation :)

it is a guinea pig food they do like it but ive read so much on it from other people and alot of people are not recommending it its called supreme original gerty guinea pig food I'm not sure if i should feed any more of this food to my babys as ive read it can cause guinea pigs to have health problems but they do love this food

Oooo I hadn't heard that. But I've never fed mine Gerty - I'm sure some people who have fed it will be able to help you on this one!

My guinea pigs were on Gerty when I got them and so I continued with it. I've now swapped them over mainly to excel nuggets but have continued giving them a sprinkle of Gerty as it's the food they get most excited about. My main reason for changing to nuggets was to prevent selective feeding. :)

Pellets are generally better than Gerty's. However, you can give a mix of pellets and Gerty's and slowly phase out the muesli.

Pellets are usually better because you will find that piggies can become quite selective iand you will end up throwing a lot of Gerty's away! I started out with Gerty's and had to serve it as an older sow I rehomed would just NOT shift from it, so I did a mix in the end.

Gerty guinea food is Coloured with EC Additives. I would not recommend feeding this to you guineas. There are lots of dried food out there that do not have any additives in them x

PS: I forgot to add that I stopped feeding Gerty's after the old sow died.

There are some good quality pellets around that are widely available or can ge ordered online.

I think if you get pelleted food and just mix the gerty's with it until it runs out, that would be a good idea. As long as they are eating it all, and not leaving a lot of it.

Even if it has colourings, well I'm sure eating it for a few weeks won't harm them. Afterall most people eat food with additives.

Or you could donate it to a rescue or a guinea pig friend :)
