Getting my guinea pig used to me...ideas?

Ive had my guinea pig(Beans for a while now, but he still seems to be scared to death. I can't even pet the guy and to top it off, the other guinea pig(Chaz) that was in the cage with him for a long time, has died.

Ive been trying for what it seems like FOREVER to get Beans to like me. I really don't know what to do. I'm out of ideas. If i can barely pet him...how is he supposed to like me?

Any ideas to get Beans used to me? And to get Beans to like me?
Any tips?

Piggies always retain a sense of fear but they learn to know who is approaching. My girls have learnt that I give them a treat if they come up to me when I'm at the side of their run. They even put their paws up on the chickenwire practically begging for a dandylion leaf! 98) :smitten:

Just give them loads of attention and they will get to know you, I sometimes think piggies are just messing with us and like to run away for the seer sake of it!

I'm sorry to hear about Chaz :'( How old is Beans? Did they belong to someone else before they came to you? Are they living indoors or outside?

As Stanny says, they always retain a sense of fear & some piggies are braver then others it just depends on their personality.

I think if they are indoors they get used to you quicker because they see & hear you walking about more. It all takes time & patience. Maybe he is missing Chaz too?
