hiya all, i am wondering whether i should give my piggy his first time bath ever. i mean he doesn;t really need one never has really, but just wondering should i give him a bath anyway, since his feet get all poopy and such? i mean, he is an old pig like over 6 years and don't want to do it now but wait until the weather is warmer. so is it a good idea to give a guinea pig a bath when he has never had one before and at his age? someone please tell me. 98) ?

Hi BlueRose120,

is he kept outside? If yes then I definitely wouldn't.

I give my piggies baths every 6-8 weeks but they have had them all their lives. At his age and if he doesn;t need it it might be a bit stressful for him to be honest.

If he gets dirty you could just spot clean the underneath with a cloth and a bit of shampoo. But if you keep him outside I would definitely not do it until it is much much warmer.

thanks Laure,
shadow is not kept outside (we don;t keep any pets outdoors) they are all indoor pets his cage is in my bedroom so definitely not outside. basically i was just asking because i was curious and all. maybe i will try the cloth and shampoo idea? my mom says it probably would be too stressful for him at his age. to give him a bath. and i would use a blow dryer at low heat to dry him off too. thanks for the response. i will probably not give him a bath but maybe I will wait until the weather is warmer outside.

Personally I do not use a dryer as mine hate it (though I have heard that some piggies like it). because mine are indoors which is always nice a warm, I usually give them a good towel dry and then put loads of hay and a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel in their cage and let them dry naturally.

when i have had to wash Shadow;s feet before (just his feet) i used a blow dryer cuz i did n;t want him to get a cold or anything. i think he likes the dryer, it seems to relax him, he sits quietly in my lap and closes his eyes somewhat. so cute! :smitten: :smitten:

Our Molly is about 2.5 yrs old and I think she's too old to be bathed now, having never had one before. A bit too much of a shock. Unless you absolutely had to that is. :)

mine realy like a dryer on them i think they like the warm haet, and my two older ones love splashing around in the water?
:) :)

Personally I just wouldn't bother - I only ever bathe piggies if they are filthy dirty (for some reason). Sometimes after an illness a little bath can perk them up and obviously add some shine to their coats. If he's lived that long without the need for a bath then I don't see why you'd do it now. If you do though good luck - he'll probably hate it and think you're trying to kill him!

i think thats a bit much i dont think he will think you are trying to kill him,
at the end of the day think of how nice we feel after having a bath all clean and fresh, so thats how he will probably feel afterwards to.
;)
