Gland infection in neck

Hi, has anyone had any experience with infected glands in guinea pigs?

I noticed this morning that my piggie (she's about 5 years old) had a large swelling under her neck. It was very soft and reached from her chin, between her front legs, to about a third of the way along her tummy. Took her straight to the vet, who diagnosed an infected gland (think he said in the mandibular gland which I think is the same as a salivary gland) and oedema (fluid retention causing swelling). He's given her a shot of antibiotics and a shot of something to bring down the swelling, and told me to return on Monday.

She's eating and drinking well and seems her usual self. FYI - At the moment she's in a large run in our garage with 3 others, and they get a hot 'water bottle' each on cold nights.

Any comments/suggestions?

No sorry, not familiar with that at all. Hope someone else can help. Hope she's better soon :)

I'm guessing a diuretic was given to clear the odema (fluid). If the swelling is still severe on Monday, it may be necessary for your vet to prick the skin and gently squeeze more fluid out.

I'm not quite sure on the diagnosis, not come across it before so unfortunately can't help there. The only infections on the neck I've heard of is cervical lymphedenitis (CL) and your usual abscess.
