Help! How can I get rid of gnats in and around my Guinea Pig's cage? I've tried the vinegar, sugar, Dawn dish detergent solution with very little luck. I've tried the sticky fly strips with ZERO luck. I'm cleaning the cage more often. I don't know what else to do that is safe for my Guinea Pig.

Not got the weather in the UK for this problem but is there something that they are being attracted to? Water in a bowl? (maybe try a bottle) Bits of fruit/veg lying about? (feed only what will be consumed straight away) Is the attractant the pig cage or something nearby like standing water or a bin? If the problem is very bad and they are biting the piggies could some sort of big mosquito net help? In tropical countries you can get huge ones which cover an entire double bed like a tent... would a walk-in mosquito net set-up be worthwhile? Check out Amazon - they're pretty cheap over here - then hang your fly paper inside this so you are stopping most of them but catching the ones that get through.

Sorry if this sounds ridiculous - I seriously can't imagine your climate in my head. We're hugging hot water bottles over here and sleeping in socks! Hopefully you'll get more sense from the posters in the US... except you lot in Texas of course - Brrrrrrrr!

Someone else had the same problem. You can see what they did; here is the link to that thread:

Gnats Galore

I may have to order that widget.
