I went away overnight last night, and rather than bothering my neighbour to feed the furry boys yet again, I stocked them up with food and hay yesterday morning, figuring they would be fine until this afternoon.

I also gave them veggies yesterday morning, which they normally get in the evening.

I got back at 3pm today to find a totally empty food bowl, but plenty of hay still left. But they weren't at all happy with me! I got some very resentful looks and loud squeaks when I filled up the food bowl. I then went back at 5pm and the bowl was empty again rolleyes

I topped it up and gave them their usual evening veggies and that must have worked because at 7pm I went out to do the watering and they were fast asleep :))

So what do you think? Was I wrong to leave them overnight, or is it no harm done?

I have left my piggies overnight and they were absoloutely fine. They probably just missed you. They are obviously used to getting treated like royalty and that is why they were disgruntled when they missed treat time..As long as they have fresh water and munchies they are ok. We are definite slaves to our piggies! I sometimes feel guility leaving them all day when I'm at work..

I'm sure they were fine! I like to keep mine topped up on food but recently I have come down in the morning and tiger's bowl has been empty (only happened about twice) and I feel a little guilty! They are fine though I think they just do it sometimes to make us spoil them more as then he gets extra veggies for breakfast so he knows what he is doing :)) ! as long as they have hay and you fed them when you got back no harm done!

We sometimes have to go away overnight, leaving their normal daily veg but masses and masses of really nice hay and lots of water....then put up with the weebles and disgusted looks when we get back! They get the normal amount of veg each day then - it is so tempting to leave them lots of extra veg but I'm not sure it's a good idea. So we stick to their usual diet, there's just a bit of a gap between servings!

Thanks everyone. That's exactly what I did - and although the food bowl was empty there was still plenty of hay if they were really hungry! I think they were probably annoyed that they weren't put out in the run on such a lovely day as well. They'll be even more annoyed tomorrow when they find out my OH has cut the grass!
