I've noticed my pigs (4) are going through hay very quickly. I recently started using haybox which they love but they went through one box in a week! I've never noticed something like this before even when changing hay in the past. I give around 8 handfuls a day but they've been eating up to 14 with no hassle. Has anyone else found this? I'm starting to think it's because I'm not providing enough enrichment

Hay is a form of enrichment for them. They love to hide in it and eat their way out, they love to lay on it, fall asleep on it, eat it, poop on it, wee on it and then eat more. The more hay they eat the healthier they are! The time to worry is when they don't eat hay.

When we swapped to hay box we found that they ate a lot more because they love it so much!

That sounds about right, my 2 go through a box every 2 weeks (not all eaten as we use hay trays so there is wastage). Our last delivery wasn’t great so lasted longer but a lovely fresh smelling box Of nice green hay gets devoured pretty quickly

I buy bale of meadow hay from country store to fill their sleeping areas/litter trays as the Timothy hay from Haybox is quite stalky and not as soft (doesn't mean they don't sleep on it!). They have separate area in their cages with Timothy hay from Haybox, there's still some wastage. One of my boys picks only the nice bits and prefers eating meadow hay whilst spread out in his litter box, whereas other 3 eat most of the stalks as well.

Piggies are fussy with their hay, I find. I switched from Hay Box timothy to Hay Box meadow hay and they hardly touched it. When I bought some more timothy, they couldn't get enough of the stuff, stalks and all!

You can't give them too much.

Very recently, I got the sample pack from HayBox, it didn’t take my boys long to demolish it and turn it into poop :)) They love it 😋

Mine love the HayBox meadow hay and as the weather gets colder I’m giving them extra hay.
They are indoor piggies but if the heating isn’t on I don’t want them to get cold.
I get 10kg every 4 weeks at the moment.

a 4 stone + bale of hay lasts my lot about 4 weeks, picked 2 more up last week end, so will hopefully last to new year. They have 5 hayracks, (the racks you put under your cupboard shelves to hold cups or plates) and a 24 "×18"×14" manger.

Lucky piggies!
