So...after the devastating loss of my beloved Rodney I have been toying with the idea of getting some more.

Problem is, at the moment my job is taking me away a lot so I dont think its fair to take on some new piggies when I dont have the time to look after them and settle them into their new home. So for the time being, I am going to hold off.

BUT! My sister has decided to get 2 piggies instead of a kitten for my 2 little neices! HOW EXCITED AM I! I will be an auntie soozie to 2 beautiful girls and 2 little piggies! :))

I have tried very hard to convince her to get them from a rescue, but she knows a lady locally who has a couple of litters, so we are going along tonight to have a look. I dont know the background of this person but I do know her daughter quite well.

I sort of know what I should be looking for in terms of health of the babies and mummie pig, and general living conditions but any other advice you can give me to look for?

Thank you x

no advice I'm afraid but ooh exciting!

If they have a TON of breeding piggies I don't think it's good. Just maybe a couple of girls might be okay breeding wise? I have no clue.

No advice from me but sure someone will come along soon! It is a shame she isn't rescuing though, just think of all those piggies in need :(! I'm sure you told her but at least from a rescue she would know they are healthy and a bonded pair who actually like each other. Sounds like you tried your best though to convince her...

I did totally :( Ive been banging on about it for ages lol!

We will go along and see, she cant take any until after their holiday in September anyway so I still have some time to work on her ;)

I'm seeing Debbie (furryfriends) on Sunday so will find out what babies shes got, see if we can take some from there instead as shes also close to where we live.

can i just say its nice to hear you say you are considering more, you have had a rough time getting over your rodders havent you? Good for you x>>

Sorry I missed this before you went!

When choosing babies there are a few things to ask -

Age - must be minimum of 6 weeks to be sure they are thriving and growing after being weaned.

Weight - should be minimum of 400g, again to be sure they are growing well.

Good round bright eyes, clean ears, coat should not be sparse and feel clean, a tacky feeling ungroomed coat is indicative of illness. When watching them move they should be freely running - bunny hopping shows development problems.

HTH (a bit)

Suzy x

Hello guys, yes I have been thinking about more cos I miss having piggies so much :) thank you x

So we went to see them.

She has 3 bonded adult boars living very happily together which was lovely to see. Doesnt look like a breeding place.

2 litters, some 5 weeks old and some 2 weeks old. The 5 week old boys had been separated, the other babies are still in with the mums.

All looked pretty bright and alert, although 1 of the smaller babies did look like he had some kind of fungal infection which I pointed out to them, but I believe its too young for treatment?

My sis has picked out 2 of the older boys which I have to say are completely stunning....a black & white crested and what looked like a lillac/ginger with red eyes.

We havent said we are going to definitely take them, as they need to work out time etc as they are going on holiday soon and I cant take them for her as I'm in Ireland while they are away.

I'm still working on the rescue option though and shes slowly coming round to it.

Oooo how exciting! How lovely, you can teach your nieces how to look after them :))

I echo everything what Suzy said; especially the bunny hopping bit; funny I instinctively knew that wasn't a good sign.

Who knows, you may then decide to have another one or two of your own one day but in the meantime what a lovely way of getting a piggy fix :))
