I am concerned about my guinea pig's overall health so I have booked him an appointment with Simon Maddock, who I hear is very good and experienced with piggies. However, I've never been there before, and I was just wondering if anyone knew what I should expect cost-wise?

People who have had consultations there before, could you maybe give me an idea of the price of the consultation and possibly something like blood tests? I need to know roughly how much money to withraw from my savings :{

ive never been to this particular vet but cost is usually around 15-25 for the consulation alone and then it goes up for every other thing that is done ... hope that helps x

Could you not phone and ask? Good luck, i hope everything is ok. Furryfriends might be able to help x

Current consult cost (I think) is just over £15. As a first port of call, I don't imagine Simon will do blood tests. He is very thorough but is also a very fair vet and will try all options before taking further action. He will not just carry out such things to run up the costs of your bill (unlike some others I won't mention!) :)

That sounds a better price than I have paid previously!

The reason I ask about blood tests is because Freddie has some unexplained weight loss - in all, he seems perfectly healthy so I can't see any obvious causes of this, so I thought they might need to do a blood test.

Freddie will have a very thorough head to toe check over. One thing Simon is especially expert in is dental work - he is by far the best at checking teeth properly and carrying out work so that recovery is possible. That may be a problem Freddie is having - one minor issue at the back of his mouth may be creating havoc! It may, of course, be nothing to do with teeth, but you can be assured that Simon will do his very best for Freddie. If things can be diagnosed through process of elimination, then expensive procedures won't be necessary. :)

First consultations for new clients, if they are going to include a dental check too, are in the region of £50. Subsequent appointments are much less.

Simon is a fantastic guinea pig vet and your piggie will get a full health check. If the problem is dental you can be assured that your piggie will get the very best treatment. Simon is the vet used by Rabbit and Guinea Pig Welfare in Rugby for all their neutering ops, and he provides all the veterinary care for the residents of The Excellent Adventure Sanctuary.

Your piggie will be in the best of hands with Simon!
