Gone off food but eating dandilions?

Hi

I'm new on here but could do with some advice please.

I have a guinea pig who is now about 18 months old. Since I got him he has had the same eating rountine, pellets in the morning and veg at night. He always eats all his pellets and all his veg.

Since its summer and my garden has become a dandilion meadow I have been giving him a couple of leaves at night instead of his veg, he absolutely loves them and they are gone in the blink of an eye. The problem I have is that he is now not eating his pellets, he hasn't eaten any for a couple of days now but when I put the leaves in he wolfes them down as if he hasn't been fed for a fortnight. Do you think that he is just being fussy and wants leaves all day or do you think there night be more to it? He is quite happy in himself. I have looked in his mouth to check that he didn't have a sore mouth and thats why he wasn't eating the hard pellets but there is nothing in there, it all looks fine.
 
I've got a grass mad guinea pig who simply won't eat anything else in the morning and can't wait to go outside. So she gets grass throughout the day, and balancing veg and pellets in the evening, just a bit less than in winter.

As dandelion is making your piggy pee, make sure he always has water around. It has quite a lot of minerals, so you want to balance that out with your evening veg.

On the positive side: Our first family guinea pig loved his dandelions very much and lived to the great old age of nearly ten!
 
Is your pig given hay at all times? Just wanted to check since no mention of it in your post.
 
is it just dandelions you're giving him or are you giving him a variety of fruit and veg as well?
often in hot weather, when my pigs are outside they won't bother with their pellets. i'd say as long as you're giving him hay, fresh water and making sure the dry food bowl is topped up, he should be fine. i'd recommend alternating his fresh food diet too.
if you're still worried, try switching brands as he may be just bored with it.
