Recently my 3 Guinea Pigs have been eating Supreme Gerty Guinea Pig Food. They love it a lot out of all the dry foods we have tried they eat all of it. But when looking it up online it got negative reviews for the food colouring. I also saw something about it not helping Guinea Pig's Bladder (e.g Cystisis ).Which dry foods would be good for my pigs? One of them has recently recovered from Cystitis.

i use oxbow cavy cuisine for maisie and eddie. i think they are one of the better brands. they don't get many though, just a heaped teaspoon at night scattered around the cage. :)

I use Oxbow Cavy Cuisine. It's the only food where I live that isn't made of alfalfa. My girls love it :)

When asked about food for bladder pigs I always recommend either

http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/food/guinea_pig/bunny/195679

Or

http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/food/guinea_pig/vitakraft/262148

They both have much more natural ingredients. The Bunny is better for bladder pigs as it does have less calcium but even the Vitakraft is better than a lot of commerical foods as the calcium is not from calcium carbonate.
The protein is also low on both of these foods which can help pigs with Interstitial cystitis (inflammation of the bladder)

I feed the Bunny with occasional Vitakraft and as the pellets are big I break them up and they only have the equivalent of a few pellets a day.

There are other lower calcium foods out there though - Oxbow Essentials, Vetcare Multimodal, and J R Farms Grainless.

I am working on a Sticky about foods at the moment and will list the amounts of calcium and protein etc and the ingredients.

Hi, what is the difference between "Mazuri Guinea Pig Diet" made by Purina Mills and Oxbow "Cavy Cuisine" Thanks

@guineapig-al

Mazuri food nutritional value is

Crude protein not less than ....................... 18.0%
Crude fat not less than ................................ 4.0%
Crude fiber not more than ......................... 18.0%
Moisture not more than ............................ 12.0%
Ash not more than ....................................... 9.0%
Vitamin E not less than........................... 75 IU/kg
Ascorbic acid not less than ............. 1,000 mg/kg

Oxbow Cavy Cuisine

  • Crude Protein (min) 14.00%
  • Crude Fat (min) 2.00%
  • Crude Fiber (min) 25.00%
  • Crude Fiber (max) 28.00%
  • Moisture (max) 10.00%
  • Calcium (min) 0.35%
  • Calcium (max) 0.85%
  • Phosphorus (min) 0.25%
  • Copper (min) 30 ppm
  • Vitamin A (min) 19,000 IU/kg
  • Ascorbic Acid (Vit C.) (min) 400 mg/kg
  • Vitamin D (min) 900 IU/kg
  • Vitamin E (min) 190 IU/kg

I would be more inclined to use Oxbow Cavy Cuisine since I can see the calcium percentage. Oxbow also has more fibre. I do not have any experience of either of these brands so maybe someone else can come along and offer more help.

Mazuri has more calcium than Oxbow. Here is a link to the full nutritional value of Mazuri:

I am just changing my piggies onto Mr Johnson advanced food. I liked what I read in a magazine but what made my mind up is that it has verm x in it.
My dog has the Verm x supplement added to his food for many years now and has not had worms or fleas since
