Our beautiful, little boy Danny went to Rainbow Bridge today. He was only 16 months old, and was diagnosed with a bladder stone last week. He underwent an operation on Friday to remove it but unfortunately they discovered the stone was lodged in one of his urethers and they were unable to remove it. Since Friday he has been very unwell, not eating or drinking, only getting what I could syringe feed into him. This morning he suffered a fit which unfortunately my children saw which frightened both them and me greatly. I rushed him to the vet but made the heartbreaking decision to put him to sleep as they didn't think he would get better and even if they could get him eating, his long term prognosis was poor. I wanted a natural death if possible but he seemed in so much pain, I couldn't bear it. I am racked with guilt for putting him through an operation and just heartbroken that he's gone. His brother Tommy is missing him a lot - my one comfort is that I put the two of them together yesterday for the whole day despite being told they should be apart after the op. They spent the day cuddled up together as usual and the sweetest thing I saw was Tommy wash Danny, he spent ages grooming his face and he was so gentle with him.
Can anyone advise how we should treat Tommy ? He is aware his brother's gone and is very quiet. We have had him out to play and cuddle but not sure if we should just let him have quiet time which he seems to want. Are guinea pigs able to sense death - Tommy has been very anxious since Friday when Danny had the op. Thanks
