Hi,

so my daughter's GPs are in the garage for the winter - plenty of hay and constant rotation of heat pads but they don't get the same amount of light and interaction there.

So I'd like a quick way of putting up an area in the house for them to use during the day just for a bit more heat, natural light and company.

We have an old C&C cage but it's real a fiddle to put up, would prefer something that I could easily clean and put away when not needed - was thinking a large plastic storage box without the lid which we could fill with hay. Any thoughts on this or alternatives?

Thanks....

If you can find a storage box which meets size requirements then it’s a good idea but it would need to be 5ft x 2ft (or larger).

C&c grids all cable tied together except the end two grids, I find, make a very quick and easy temporary cage - it certainly what i use. As they are all cable tied, it simply pops open within moments, connectors on the end two grids and laid down on the plastic sheet with fleece on top - I can get a temporary cage up using this method within five minutes.
It then all stores pretty easily.

You can also get fabric pop up runs which are quick to set up and easy to storage.

However, while it’s a nice idea to give them some time in the warmth of the house, it’s those temperature fluctuations which can actually be a bad idea. Outdoor piggies shouldn’t really be brought indoors during winter if they are required to stay out all winter. Piggies need to be kept warm but actually being in a stable temperature is a key factor. This means your house would need to be the same temperature (or within 5 degrees of it) as the garage for them to not be exposed to a fluctuation. If there is more than that 5 degree difference, they are better off to stay in the garage at all times (except if you cant keep them warm enough and in which case they may have to move into the house for all the winter).
