Here are some cute shots I got a few days ago of our little cuties. Grass at this time of year is buried under 10 feet of snow! So we brought these cheap little plastic containers from the dollar store and planted our own grass for them...we have 35 containers so everyday we can put 2 or 3 in there for them to munch on (and sit on, look at Jasmine LOL ahh she cracks me up lol!)
Its not the same as there outside playpen for the summertime...but its a little treat for them to take away the winter blues.

Thank you the last one is Jasmine, she will have you in stitches watching her lol
we re seeded our lawn last summer and we had some leftover...we use ez seed from Canadian tire (we got it on sale for about $19 I think) and I dug up some of my garden soil from the flower beds and used that as the base (although ez seed has soil in it already) it is very easy to grow and maintain x

forgot this one...makes me laugh lol. Okay I need to go to work now. Have a great day everyone

What a great idea, can I ask how long they took to grow & was it just multi purpose compost you used?

Does anyone else do this?

Thanks
Becky :)

Hello,

It is just a multi purpose soil but I always add a handful of sheep manure and a handful of peat moss and mix it all in at the start of the growing season (it really helps give more nutrients to whatever I decide to plant in there)
You can get a big bag of both sheep manure and peat moss from Canadian tyre for about $4 and they will last you for a long time.

I started my grass pots outside in early fall (september) or spring (April) because I found grass grows really well in the colder seasons (I always kept the soil moist until they started to germinate) then once they started to sprout (about 10 days) I brought them inside...we are fortunate to have a sunny spare bedroom so that has being converted to our "green house" lol.
They were ready for the girls to enjoy by mid December. so about 1.5 to 2 months! good luck

Awww! I also grow grass for my piggies as I live in a flat and they don't get access to a garden :(

Lovely pigtures!

Oh how lovely x)x)

My piggies are inside now for the winter but they LOVE being outside munching on the grass :)

I take them outside to give them a haircut (otherwise the lounge would be a sea of hair!) and they sit with their noses in the air wheeking :))

I go out when its not too bad to cut some grass for them, OH leaves a patch to grow long. They go mad, as if they have never had grass in their life!

I am also from Canada (B.C.) and I grow wheat grass for my two girls, but I think I will try regular lawn grass. We have a Canadian Tire in our town. I find I get mold in the soil in the pots of wheat grass so have to cut and wash it before giving it to the girls. I can't put the whole pot in their cage. It doesn't look like you have a mold problem with your grass. Also you only get two cuttings from the wheat grass before throwing it out. I loved the pictures of your girls. Thanks for sharing.
