I have a greasy pig!

Big Dave keeps getting greasy and I'm not sure why.

It's not his grease gland; he's never had a greasy grease gland since he was castrated 3 years ago, he's got greasy fur all over.

Any idea what could be causing this?

I rarely bath the pigs, so it's not overwashing or anything.

He will be having a bath before he goes dating though :))

My Hazelnut used to have greasy fur all over, so much so that my granddaughter would comment he needed a bath. I never worried about it myself.

However, since I've been feeding him at least 2 large leaves of cos lettuce (romaine it might be called there?) every day his fur has become as soft nd fluffy as when he was a baby.

He is a picky eater and as he loves his cos lettuce I increased his allowance of it. The fur seems to have been a happy side effect.

I have since heard that cos lettuce is good for their coats.

Hmm, Big Dave's is an all-over-grease.

They do eat lettuce quite often too, mainly because I try and feed them mainly leafy veg.

I did wonder if it was age? He's at least 4 and a half and this has been going on for about 4-5 months now.

I have a very greasy pig too, Minty.

He needs bathing every month. It starts from his grease gland and works it's way up. Because he's white on that half of his body he looks mucky and his hair looks and smells greasy. If I dont bath him often his skin becomes itchy.
Age unknown, and he's not the most dominant pig contrary to the belief it's a dominance thing.

His sac also is very moist and smelly (compared to my other boars)

Would like answers for myself too. :)

Maybe more regular bathing could help? Not sure on the answer to be honest, sorry. One of my boars gets a bit like it, but is so much better after a bath.

x.

Well to be honest, I've had him 3 years and he's been bathed twice in that time :))

I'm awaiting my gorgeous guineas order, hoping it's sat at work so I can collect it tomorrow
