My rather gorgeous Prince Harry 0:) is a long haired lad (A merino) and therefore needs brushing regularly but, he seems to hate it he's walks away from me and squeaks in protest >:(, I was wondering, does he really need grooming daily or will I be ok to groom every other day?. I have checked him over and there seems to be no sign of mites or other skin irritation

I give mine a bath in Posh N Go to condition and seperate the hair (if things are bad then use a conditioner too). A CocoNeem Melt and some Ivermectin will rule out whether or not he has mites (I give Ivermectin orally on day one and ten,)

The 'rake' combs used on Human hair are good for all long hair varieties particularly curlies- but comb away from the body :) I got mine in Superdrug but I'm Boots must do them too. Try holding him and doing it too. If you hold the front end over the shoulders (or under) to do the back (make sure thelegs are resting on a surface) and hold him securely to do the rest its easier.

If I have a rescue thats particularly bad then I may offer food while I'm doing it but usually I just get on with the grooming, just do what works for you and the guinea :) My Texel used to hate being combed and I had her since a baby when she had no coat! Others are fine and don't complain at all.

A Gorgeous Guineas Lavender Melt is a nice conditioner for the Longhairs too :)

I don't do mine daily. I bath monthly, groom inbetween if necessary (my Peruvian gets knotty) and give a good trim round the trouser area and the hair close to the body leaving a long layer or two on top :)

I've been brushing my Trixy ( coronet) so she's used to it and doesnt struggle
I give her a brush every day otherwise the hair gets matted but I think it depends on the pig

My archie used to get extremely knotty, but i gave him his first bath with posh 'n' go shampoo and cut all the dead looking ends off all around him i took a good 1/2 inch off and he's had no knotts at all!

he doesnt like being brushed he wanders off around my bed/chair.. but id recommend that shampoo seems to have done a good job with archie's fur O0

Most of my long haired dont mind a grooming and dont get tatty so they cope with being groomed 2-3 times a week.
I think the reason Harry hates being groomed is down to the state he was in,If the owner had been trying to groom his tats out he will asociate being groomed with the pain of having his hair pulled :-\

We have to groom Peanut about once every week, she is such i whimp though. We take extra care and make sure we're not hurting her but she still screams like she's being tourchered ::) But thats just how she's always been, she still makes a fuss everytime we pick her up

Oh the poor wee man :'(, I had wondered if it was anything to do with that, how could any one neglect him in such a manner :tickedoff: :tickedoff: he's such a lovely gentle piggy. I guess that it's ging to be a case of gently getting him used to been groomed and getting him to associate it with nice things. Do you know of any favourite treat he liked or anything like that, that I can give him while he's been groomed?

i have two long haired and they look so funny once i have groomed them (bless)
first they have a bath and hair washed and then they have a hair cut.

Honey my coronet gets brushed every other day and has a good comb through on a sat. Every now and then she has a trim round her bum area. Yesterday she had a trim and I'm getting much better with my hairdressing.

Now Honey is happy with her choppy bob or i think she would like to call it a pob with it being short at the back and longer on top and sides lol :smitten:

We do our Alpaca thoroughly on a Saturday or Sunday and roughly brush him through a couple of times a week. We keep his hair reasonably trimmed, shorter round his trouser area (what a lovely way of putting it Karen!). He is a rescue piggy and the story is that he originally belonged to a breeder who was taken ill and had to give up all her stock (he came from Jacky in Beckenham). He was obviously used to being "placed" when we got him in the summer, because the little chap would sit where ever he was put and wouldn't move a muscle. He's now got used to us and our crowd and does a runner after a while, much more piggy like to my mind! ;D
