I thought it would be nice to have a go at growing some veg this year for the piggies and bunnys. I have had them growing a few weeks now and thought you might like to see how i am getting on. I have had some nibbles taken out of a few things courtesy of Binky and Ella buns.

I have made a temporary area with some loose bricks to protect from Binky and Ella, i cover the top with mesh

These are more tomatoes, marrows (for me) and more cucumbers.

This is what happens to the strawberry plant when left down too low and Binkys about.

Only a few leaves remain

Oh you're so good! They all look very healthy (um, apart from the strawberries!). I grew strawberries and cherry tomatoes in pots last year but my labrador ate them all rolleyes

I leave the growing to my dad now - he has an allotment and the guineas get all sorts of things!

Cheers Sophie i am learning something new everyday about them. Been googling in my lunch break as i found a yellow flower on the cucumbers this am and apparently its a male flower. I can now sex cucumber flowers :(|)

Dad grew some the other year and they were really bitter - something to do with being male or not, I can't remember! Nasty!

I'd love to grow more but I simply don't have the time... mind you, would save some money I think, with all these guineas!

Its the females that grow the cucumbers from them, apparently when i get a female flower i can brush off some of the pollen from the male onto the female centre to help them grow and hopefully avoid bitter cucumbers well thats what the experts say whether i manage it or not is a different matter. I am on a learning curve lol.

I'm completely uselesss at growing anything rolleyes Your plants look wonderful - lucky pigs and buns :)

Have a lovely neighbour with a huge veggie garden though so the piggies do very well.

Wow, they're growing great! The lettuces look delicious, very crisp. Well done!
Unfortunately I too am useless at growing things. Will have a go at some point though.

Lovely Lindsay. We are growing lots of tomatos! We have parsley to do but I've left it too late I think. In the middle of making a vegetable patch at the back so should have more on the go next year! x

Too late for veg this year, as we've just finished the decking this week, apart from my strawberries in hanging baskets. The ones in the pot got eten by something - not piggies, though, or hubbies, at that!

Looks great, what a lovely idea. Make sure you save some for yourself too though! Are tomato plant leaves/stems poisonous to rabbits? Because I heard they were for guinea pigs :S Does anybody know? xx

I am growing parsley at the moment and its coming on a treat, mind you its taken months to grow and it will be gone within days once the piggies get hold of it :(|)

WELL DONE Linds xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Do you think maybe Binky and Ella were just taste testing? you know to make sure they'll be fine for the piggies rolleyes
Can't wait to see a plate with your fresh veggies sitting on it, then one with the all the furries tucking in xoxoxoxoxoxo
Did you ask them all if they minded if you grew something for yourself? :(|):(|):(|)
