Just nipped in as we was passing and I needed piggie food. Well passed the pens and mmmmmmmmm there was a sow being seen too ::)yup there was a boar on her. I raced to find someone and was told they are brought in already sexed and there was no way I could be right. I asked if I could check for him as I knew what to do. It was a little sow in the boars pen lord knows how they was not all fighting over her. Anyway he took her out and made up an indoor cage for her then said she will be sent back untill she has given birth. I asked where she would go he said one of our rescue stores.

lol, at first when you said she was being cared to I thought you meant someone was considering buying her ::). It doesn't sound like pets at home is doing a very caring or good job with the small animals. Did you offer to 'take her off their hands'? It might not have worked, but I would think the last thing they would want is a vet bill for a guinea pig who had problems, or having to hand rear some babies.

Cor.. just think if hadn't told them. A little kids pet piggy could've then turned into a brood! :)

You did the right thing - Hope they don't put her back in though :-\

I have not got a spare cage well I have but its 5ft long by 2ft wide and I cannot get it into the shed. I think my husband would of had a fit if I had come out with a guinea pig

lol OK. It's just my natural instinct that whenever a guinea pig is in a situation like that to say "I'll take him/her/they!"

Kimmie

Saying that though he has been looking at three story high Hutchs on ebay tonight and saying they would fit into the shed.

Seriously sometimes I give up hope at P@H
do they ever listen >:( >:( >:(

theres one in there right now that had babies a while back, shes a little beauty and has been there months, theyve sold all the babies but still shes sitting there waiting for someone to love her..
I'm thinking of going down this week to see if shes still there maybe...

lol, I tried this on Friday at our local branch to a pair of boars who have been there for months, my offer to take them off their hands in exchange for a donation was met with a plug for their new adoption service ::) Nah, they'll just see the babies as free stock, a nice little extra bonus for them I suppose >:(

These Pets at Home places sound awful. There is a really good pet shop near us called Daleside garden centre in Hawarden which is where we got our bun George and our piggie Tiger from, but Waterworld in Neston is where I found our 2nd bun Marble, squashed in a piggie cage... we have heard about a big pet store in Queensferry which we ar egoing to have a look at for pens tomorrow (if the snow clears), but I have never heard of P@H - is it a South of England chain?

I am in the midlands and as far as I know pets at home go from scotland and right the way down south of england . They are a chain of huge pet supermarkets. The one here has had a few different names over the last 10 years or so but has always been in the same retail park.
I am going back tomorrow if hubby will take me to check on the little sow she was so tiny and scared when I held her. If she been put back in the pen I know she will be going home with me. Grr at the place

Oh dear. I hope the little girl is OK, poor little thing, and if not, I hope you can rescue her!

We are going to this big petstore in Queensferry, N.Wales tomorrow if we can dig our car out of the snow - we've never been before, it might be a P@H store. If I see anything that is not right then I will say something.
Waterworld on Chester High Rd had piggies and buns in together, I don't know enough about them yet to sex them but the pace they were selling animals to people with v.young (and horrid!) children was scary... I wanted to say something to the staff but I thought they might escort me off the premises for being a mad woman..

Maybe its time to start a bit of a campaign to rasie awareness of piggie care.. since the advent of the internet I have learnt so much about looking after my animals, but previously I went on the advice of vets and pet shop staff... Like I said, Waterworld had our bunny squashed in a piggie cage - he is not a small bunny! Maybe a "Wall of Shame" with links to all the forums and pet websites?

I think I will write to Waterworld and voice my disgust.
