I have a piggie, pedro, who I just drained his abscess but there is some bacteria left on roof of his skin and I keep cleaning it with peroxide but it doesnt come off. Any suggestions on what I should do?
Yeah it is, he just runs and hides behind me legs doesnt stand still at all for me to clean the inside. So far just trying to keep the wound open so it doesnt fill again. Is there any other option besides cleaning the inside. I'll try again in a few hours though.
Abscess, now it's a lot better but when it opened I had to breath through mouth cause it was so bad. Looked like cream or cheese. So far been 3 days since opened
Just get it checked by s guinea pig savvy vet. With a good antibiotic it should heal quickly, but you must make sure it doesn’t heal with pus left inside.
I wouldn't recommend home treating at all. As Furryfriends says get to a cavy savvy vet for a strong antibiotic in order to prevent further infection and they should give instructions on how to flush it properly so it heals from the inside out.
So did it open on its own or did a vet lance it? When my Anna had an abscess, the vet lanced it, I cleaned and flushed it twice a day for about two weeks and she was on antibiotics the whole time. It was a lot of work but she is all better and doing great!
As much as I wanna give him to vet, i legit do not have money. Last vet visit was only 170$. I cannot imagine what they gonna charge me do fix him up.
It opened on its own. I just held a warm cloth under his chin for a few days to speed up the process.
Now that it's open, you can continue to irrigate it with sterile saline (I actually just would buy the stuff that you can use to store contact lenses- not the cleaning solution, just a saline solution.) I would use a syringe (without the needle end) to gently irrigate inside the wound and then gently stroke/press the skin towards the hole to express any new pus. Even though the wound is now open, it can still be infected and continue to accumulate pus inside. An antibiotic would be a good idea to help to treat the bacteria and allow it to heal without forming a new abscess.
Can you not phone your vet to get a rough idea of the cost involved? Obviously seeing a vet would be the quickest way and the one that causes the least suffering for your piggy. The vets should be able to give a rough idea on cost of consultation, flushing and antibiotics so you can actually check whether it's affordable or not
