Hi!
Around 3 weeks ago I rescued a pair of 4 month old brothers and was wondering about how active they should be. I have read that they are active animals however when in their cage (5x2 c&c) they spend around 90% of their time in the loft or underneath it. Is this normal behaviour? When out they sometimes run around quite a lot in a 2x1m pop up tent. Thanks!

Hi

Guinea pigs are crepuscular; i.e. most active in the mornings and evenings, which is their main feeding time. They digest and sleep/doze off and on, and mostly only browse quietly during the day and the night. Your may still be settling in and haven't found their full confidence yet.

However, you work on that with enrichment ideas and interaction that doesn't involve only lap time.
