8 1/2 years old ex-First Lady of the Tribe Ffwlbri 'Moonlight' (pronounced Full-bree) is enjoying some hand picked dandelion on the lawn.

Her legs and her balance may not quite be what they used to in the day when she ruled the Tribe with a balaclava and a kalashnikov in her paw, but her zest of life has not much dimmed.

Watching her is still making me smile even after so many years!

Who is your own nominee for Guinea Pig Appreciation Day and why?

My only rainbow piggy, Smudge
He was a very timid pig, but near the end of his life he was content just to sit in your lap and be syringe fed, and stroked
He only lived 3 or 4 months, but I treasure the time I spent with him

Not sure what you mean about the 3/4 months. Did he die when he was only about 3-4 months?

Sorry that was unclear, he only lived around 3 or 4 months
We think he could’ve been sick when we got him, as we got him from Pets at home and he was always considerably smaller than Smokey

My rainbow piggie Deborah Whiskers. I rescued a rabbit and a guinea pig from a neighbour who had lost interest in both of them. Sadly they had lived in the same cage together and Harvey the Male rabbit continually mounted her so they had to be split up. They lived in separate cages, but could see each other and spent time together supervised. This was when I was around 9 or 10 and she out lived the rabbit, amazing when she had had to suffer his advances for so long. I think she was about 6 - 7 in the 1970’s when she finally died, a beautiful ginger Dutch guinea pig!

Tough choice as each piggy is special in their own way.
I’m going to say Merab who captured my heart the instant I saw her. She had a lovely character and there is still a Merab shaped hole in my heart after losing her last year. She was a fee months past her 6th birthday

Mine has to be Spike because how lovely he is with Peanut. Peanut is a very scared timid piggy, when we first had them Spike used to take food to Peanut in his hidey. Peanut hates floor time and needs the security of a pen, they have a pen made of C&C grids which I leave open at one corner. Spike goes for an explore round the room but frequently goes back to check on Peanut in the pen. This week Spike held Peanut's paw at the vets when he had his operation. Peanut has been very poorly this week and Spike has been taking food to him and checking on him constantly. It brings a tear to my eye to see him put his face up to Peanut's as if to say 'you alright mate'. Spike is now unwell himself but it's not deminished his concern for his friend.

That’s such a fabulous bond between them. Spike really is one in a million.

I can’t answer as it’s hard to pick one out of my four! 😬 if I was pushed I’d probably say fudge because he’s so gentle and just likes the easy life. But the other three all have qualities that I love.

Well yeah it’s hard to choose, I’ve loved them all so much in different ways. But really it’s got to be my Little White Angel Rupert 😇 Just the nicest, kindest and sweetest boy ever. Still shed a tear even though coming up to two months since he went to Rainbow Bridge to make everyone happy there. That’s just what he did! My Poopy Bear was an amazing piggy:love: 6 years with him but wish it had been many, many more! Xx

Hard choice, I love all my piggies so much.
However I nominate my little Olive. I’m so proud of how far she’s come since I rescued her from that god awful hell hole of a bird aviary back in November last year. She was so so small, sick and scared. Her and her sister fought hard and stuck together to get through.
Olive is still, and always will be petite due to her poor start in life being malnourished and fighting for survival along with about 30 other sweethearts. And I think she’ll always be shy. But she’s now so happy, healthy and has recently just started to squeeeeeaaaak when dinner is coming. She is a very resilient piggie, the bottom of the pecking order but she’s not scared to boss the boss about sometimes..He knows when she means it! :))

She is amazing @Hannah_xx
Remember seeing those pics and definitely brought a tear to my eye that people could be that cruel to such lovely babies. What a little gorgeous fighter. She’s beautiful and great she’s getting her voice! :) xx

I know I'm late to this, but I'm gonna nominate Comet. A passion for being a naughty PITA, an uncanny ability to give me a heart attack, and a heart of gold. There was no malice in him, everyone who met him adored him because he was just so gentle. If he bit your fingers even accidentally, you could see he was distressed about it. He was the one who would come over to say hello, he was the one who leapt off the sofa (twice!) to get at the hay, who tried to climb onto the arm of the sofa because that's where the blueberries were, and in the entire time they were in my care, he was the one who repeatedly lost his dinner to Blitzen. The same way, every time.
They were chalk and cheese really, but Comet made it work.
