Guinea Pig Bleeding From Rear, And Now White Fluid?

Hi there. On wednesday evening I noticed my guinea pig Cookie was bleeding from her rear. I had been out all day so was unsure of how long she had been bleeding for, however took her to the vet. He took her temperature and he said it was normal, however there was a lot of blood on the themometer. He gave us antibiotics to give her until Saturday, which we have been giving. She has been bleeding on/off since then, and now I have just noticed a white milky fluid is coming out instead? Anyone know what this is? I googled and found no answer. I asked the vet what the likelihood is of her surviving this and he couldn't answer me, he told me to wait and see how she was on Saturday. But she is still bleeding and this white fluid has left me stumped?

Bit of background: She is 5 years old, lives alone as my 2 other guinea pigs passed away. Still eating and drinking normally, no behavioural changes. Pooping and urinating normally though her poop is sometimes coated in blood.
 
yikes I have no idea. is the vet you took her to an exotic? all I can say "bump," and hopefully someone more helpful will come along...
 
I am wondering if the white stuff could be mucous. Does it hurt her when she pees or poos?

Please could you update your location so that we can tailor our advice accordingly.
 
Could be mucous, I have googled though and it looks like Cookie's was more runny.
She seems to have stopped bleeding for the time being though as I said it has been on and off.
She doesn't seem in pain when pooping or urinating.. there has been no behaviour changes at all.
 
The vet only prescribed Baytril until Saturday evening, we are seeing the vet again on Monday as for the time being she has stopped bleeding. Should I continue giving Baytril until then?

Yes, please conitnue the full course of antibiotic and weigh her daily at the same time. If necessary Hand feed. It can be that it is something to do with the womb rather than the urinary tract. A scan or x-ray may help. It is always much more difficult when this happens over the festive period. :(

i had problems with My 7 year old Ellie last year, she kept bleeding often when she pooped (real red, undiluted looking blood)& getting Urinary tract infections, turned out she had an ovarian cyst, the vet did an ultrasound (conscious) & found a mass there. Ellie then had 2 lots of Chorulon (HCG) hormone injections approx 10 days apart & we've had no bleeding since, that was last march roughly.
Sometimes mine have had a white'ish liquid around their opening but i have no idea why, their wee can be a cloudy white/yellowish colour though & sometimes gritty if they have calcium/bladder issues. An xray may determine if she has bladder stones/grit/sludge causing the irritation.
try asking the vet if a different antibiotic could be tried if its not effective, also if she seems in pain, could you ask for some anti-inflamatory/painkiller could be prescribed(metacam/loxicom)
this will make her more comfortable too :nod:

Baytril as with any antibiotic can mess up the good gut bacteria, if you can try & get a probiotic (biolapis/ avipro plus/ pets at home probiotic powder )to help her gut recover, it might reduce the white liquid.

This could be anything from a pyometra (uterus infection) to a bladder or kidney infection. I would suggest further investigations if she is not improving. An xray or ultrasound to start with.

As Abi nurse and Wiebke have said - one of my sows had the same and it was ovarian cysts - an ultrasound showd up the ovarian cysts that my exotics vet could feel.
