I'm going to be really cheeky here and get you guys to help me out with one of my assignments! :P

Basically I have to make a presentation for college about Guinea Pigs and communication! I have a LOT of information already, but I'm struggling a little with some parts and thought you guys could help me out...please.

So I know the basics of how they communicate, but I also have to include ways they communicate with body parts, and the parts that I'm not really sure on: :hmm:
-How Guinea Pigs Communicate with Eyesight
- How Scent helps them to communicate
- Pheromones...whatever that one means!
- Touch. I mean, I know I could probably count their "rumbles" and humping and things like that!

Anyway, if any of you guys know anything about this...may I have some help? Please? I'm happy to send payments in the form of cookies and cute Guinea Pig pictures! I know I'm being dead cheeky asking for help!

Scenting should be an interesting one, grease glands and smelly boars etc
Pheromones is like sex hormones
Touch - things like headbutting or nose off's to show who's boss?

Yeah! I think Scenting and then Touch with the rumbles and the other dominance displays may probably make up 99.9% of this presentation xD I always pick Guinea Pigs even if they're hard to work with, I can't help it!

i can only comment that sometimes my girls will give my hand a little head but when they don't like me touching them !

In my observations, archies communication and behavior is pretty much like any other animals I have encountered, including humans :P I find everyone does pretty much the same body language and sounds, I guess theres not that many ways to communicate a feeling. They can smell human scent too, and react to it.

I thought of an example for eye-sight: When my boys are doing dominance displays, they often go fluffy all over - I guess it's like a dog putting its hackles up, to make them look bigger and more menacing...

Yep, pheromones are scent chemicals; their main purpose is to trigger sexual behaviour. That's how male GPs know there's a female in heat from a distance, without seeing / hearing her.

And for scent: Definitely plenty of 'smelly boar' examples :D For example, my boys often drag their hind end over an area where another male (one not from their herd) has been) and leave a particular smell which we call their 'musk' - not sure of the correct term.

Good luck with your presentation!

... and there's nothing more adorable than seeing a boar "groom" a sow just behind her ear . Apparently, he's reinforcing that she is welcome in the herd . When Max did this with Bess or Sparkle - I always said he was giving them a kiss !

Congratulations, am really pleased for you. Sorry I saw your post too late to help but you didn't need it anyway!
