My guinea pig is 4 years old and has never had any health problems. She lives with two other guinea pigs. Today I went and checked on them and she wasn't walking, she just dragged her back legs behind. Any advice will be great.

Please take her to a vet ASAP as an emergency, if she isn't using her back legs then obviously something is seriously wrong.

My Guinea pig is also not able to use his hind legs at the moment, awful to see :( For Arnie this has come on following various symptoms and he is on medication while we are trying to get to the bottom if his illness. Guinea pigs can do downhill very quickly when poorly so always best to get them to a vet ASAP, especially with something as serious as this. I hope the vet can help her x

@Tmk3
Did you manage to get you piggy to a vet. I know it can be very worrying when this happens, but definitely a vet visit for this type of aliment to try and understand the cause and remedy.

Today she started walking normally again but she is vibrating and still won't eat or drink.

Sorry to hear your guinea pig is sick. I think you really need to get her to see a vet as soon as you can.

I agree, she definitely still needs to see a vet ASAP. Sending healing vibes!

@Tmk3 She needs to see a vet. It could be an age related issue that some pain relief might help. Or it could be an issue that only a vet can diagnose and treat.

I took her to the vet and they said she is going to die soon and I should think about putting her down. They also gave me a syringe to feed her and give water to her which she is using.

sometimes back leg paralysis can be brought on by a vitamin crash, vitamin deficiency or scurvy. did the vet check or treat for this? has she had any falls or injuries that could have caused the leg dragging? Its all according as to the cause of the paralysis as to the treatment, but sometimes members on here have had some degree of success with supporting guinea underneath & massaging the legs gently in a tepid water paddle (not deep as for swimming, or that goes near the head-guineas don't normally like water & panic), try increasing her vitamin c intake, red peppers for example or the tescos chewy vit c tablets,

Your vet sounds like a caring, compassionate person! i think i would change vets to one with more guinea experience & a bedside manner ! wishes for a full & speedy recovery xx

My Tilly started dragging her back legs and hopping like a frog. She had tests, including X rays, which showed that, due to her neglect previously, she had calcium and Vit C deficiency and Osteoporosis. Her little bones were as thin as glass.

She had painkillers and, as she was then on a good, vitamin rich diet, she did very well.

The vet just said that he doesn't know what has happened to her. He gave me painkillers but she is now having fits so I think the right thing to do is to put her down.

So sorry you have to make such a hard decision even when made out of love for your girl.
Holding you in my thoughts

What's even worse is that one of my other guinea pigs died today so now I've got one left but she doesn't seem herself and isn't eating as much.

I'm so very sorry for your loss.:hug:it maybe a good idea to have your remaining piggy checked by a guinea pig savvy vet/exotic,depending on what vets are available in your area.it could be an infection, but only a vet can diagnose,I'm not allowed to diagnose.Non of this is your fault. Please inform the forum how you get on.are you in the uk? I'm sure if you are someone would be able to recommend a vet.:)

So sorry for your loss. Losing two piggies in such a short space of time is heartbreaking. I would definitely take your other piggy for a check up. Sending hugs. Sleep tight little piggies. xx

I'm so sorry. My baby died recently too. She had all the same symptoms of your little one. How are your other two pigs holding up?
